2 piece discs

In my search for a better deal on the cost of front discs I had a contact from MG days quote on the price of 2 piece front discs.

This is what they said.

Any thoughts?

Hello Neil,

The replacement two piece rotor and bell assembly will be £534.50 +VAT.
This price is on the initial pair as there is a £50 design and
programming fee on the bells. Any subsequent sets of rotors and bells
will be £484.50 +VAT a pair.

If there is interest within the Maserati community for these and you can
put together a group buy, we can start the discount with 5 pairs and
offer a 15% discount (the design fee is not discountable)

So that would work out at £421.83 +VAT each set.

£411.83 (£484.50 less 15%)
plus £10 development (£50 divided by the 5 sets)

If there are more than 5 sets needed then we may be able to increase the
discount accordingly.

When you come to replace the rotors again, the bells are re-useable so
you only need the rotor and bolt pack. This comes to £274.50 +VAT a pair

How would these compare, quality-wise, with the FD discs from Torreno at £250 each?

It would work out much cheaper in the long run by just having to replace the rotors, unless the labour time to do that was significant.

My guess that if the quality was good, there would be demand for a lot more than 5 pairs, so maybe more discount could be achieved.

Is it a similar price for rears, or does this just relate to the fronts?

The rears have the inboard hubs and so you would want to replace the whole thing not just the rotor surfaces. For myself i would not go for a bolted disk i like the simplicity of a one piece disc.

Given the huge/silly costs involved and the choices available I fancy going for the 2 piece option.

For £500 the OEM front discs are a rip off and I'd rather get something interesting and better quality for that sort of money.

Anyone with me?

Think I must have got the last pair of rears back in March from ap, they refunded me for the fronts (showed as being in stock) , fortunately Marios had some fronts in:)

You can get std OEM discs from Eurospares for about £500 a pair. I think what we're trying to do here is get something a bit better for that sort of spend.

Maserati spares operation seems to be about selling £100 spares for £500 (and be grateful) it doesn't do the brand any good at all, or the survival of older tired 3200s which become uneconomical propositions pretty quickly.

Yes Karate Maserati

I can get them made in China for very reasonable individual price BUT minimum order quantity is 300 units and I don't want to be bothered with product liability. The other brake disc thread started life as being about that topic.

I find it odd that Maserati are keen to promote their heritage, but given some of the spares problems, some of their heritage will be consigned to the scrap heap, unlike Ferrari who seem to encourage their vintage owners, who let's face it are sometimes those who buy the new vehicles too.

Having worked with Volvo cars for years yes I'm startled by Maserati's attitude to provision of parts. Volvo offer a "nice price" policy where parts for older cars are kept in supply and are often discounted to keep cars on the road and to support the Volvo caring brand value.

Got an old Maserati? Haha that'll teach you! This £5 part is £500 and you can't get it anywhere else.
