In Land Rover circles, it seems like everyone has a theft story. No matter where they live. I heard one last week from a mate of mine here in N.I. He was on his way up to Kinloss, when the seller telephoned him to say, that the Defender he planned to buy had been stolen the night before. As my mate was north of Aberdeen, the seller offered to put him up for the night, in his considerable country house. That evening the police telephoned to say, that they had a couple of leads and that they'd call back if either one worked out.I was looking at a defender. But my god they are expensive to buy secondhand. Plus I think if you own one in London they are so in demand they get stolen almost immediately.
Then I looked at a disco 4. Which looks nice as well and then I read all the reviews which all say it is an unreliable piece of $hit.

Following a tip off from a local, about some suspicious looking characters, mooching around a shed not far from his home, the police went to the shed and found the Defender being prepped for a new paint job in a different colour. The car thieves were nowhere to be found. First thing my mate did on taking possession of the Defender was to fit a few off the shelf security devices as an interim fix.
I'll be putting at least one kill switch on mine, plus whatever else is deemed to be effective.
On the Disco4. I took one for a test drive, when I sold my Grand Cherokee and was impressed with how it drove, the driving position and the fit and finish inside. Even on the base model which I drove. Hadn't heard about their unreliability. That's a real shame.
