Your most complimented car?

I was looking at a defender. But my god they are expensive to buy secondhand. Plus I think if you own one in London they are so in demand they get stolen almost immediately.
Then I looked at a disco 4. Which looks nice as well and then I read all the reviews which all say it is an unreliable piece of $hit.

In Land Rover circles, it seems like everyone has a theft story. No matter where they live. I heard one last week from a mate of mine here in N.I. He was on his way up to Kinloss, when the seller telephoned him to say, that the Defender he planned to buy had been stolen the night before. As my mate was north of Aberdeen, the seller offered to put him up for the night, in his considerable country house. That evening the police telephoned to say, that they had a couple of leads and that they'd call back if either one worked out.
Following a tip off from a local, about some suspicious looking characters, mooching around a shed not far from his home, the police went to the shed and found the Defender being prepped for a new paint job in a different colour. The car thieves were nowhere to be found. First thing my mate did on taking possession of the Defender was to fit a few off the shelf security devices as an interim fix.
I'll be putting at least one kill switch on mine, plus whatever else is deemed to be effective.
On the Disco4. I took one for a test drive, when I sold my Grand Cherokee and was impressed with how it drove, the driving position and the fit and finish inside. Even on the base model which I drove. Hadn't heard about their unreliability. That's a real shame.

remember watching that celebrity chef programme, one where he was driving his lovely silver Defender 110 through Europe, got to Palermo in Sicily and it got stolen, sure enough the local Mafia were ****** off that this would happen on their watch and put the word out that who ever was responsible should return the car poste haste, sure enough it turned up the next day

Trouble is you get in from the roof like a submarine, I believe not all axles have a proper diff., mostly the water jet engines or whatever they were have been removed, and a 6 litre RR petrol engine, like 4mpg...

I remember reading somewhere a Saturn V rocket does (did) 5.5" to the gallon. US Gallons though so not all bad news.

Actually that could have been a Question of The Day....

Another question of the day could be, What did the Nazis ever do for us?
To which you might choose to respond, if you were so inclined. Well, now that you mention it, quite a lot really.
There's NASA. Autobahns. Volkswagen and Porsche.

Never produced a decent four engined bomber tho, there was the Heinkel He177, four engines in two nacelles, sort of like the Avro Manchester, that later morphed into the Lancaster of course...

And I read once it was the British Army that rolled out the Beetle, prior to that very few were made pre-liberation..

Yep, the VW factory was ordered stripped immediately after Germany's surrender. But the officer in charge, a British Major Hirst, decided otherwise. Obviously he didn't take it upon himself to disobey orders. I imagine he made a case for reopening the factory, since the Western allies were keen to rebuild Germany's economy.

For NASA and the Autobahns they deserve applause. For the last two they deserve sanctions.

Zyklon B was actually a pesticide which was re-purposed because exhaust fumes were a bit slow acting.

Bit like Thalidomide in a way? Actually a cancer cure, supposed to kill malformed growths, unfortunately giving it to pregnant woman made it think the babies limbs were cancerous growths and stopped them growing.

My mum when she was carrying me was prescribed Thalidomide for morning sickness, but refused it, thank God or.....
