Have you considered the skoda Octavia scout or yeti , my wife loved driving the yeti as soon as she got in it but she's low maintenance so it didn't have to meet any prestige standards , as long as it started and drove she was happy

The yeti is small on the outside but big on the inside , all the back seats come out so load carrying is great

I sold a 2011 yeti with 110k on and replaced it with a 2015 B class Mercedes but if I'm being honest I preferred the yeti to drive

Didn't Jeremy Clarkson do a fantastic review of one where he drove it through a burning building?
It's a fantastic car and has got great write ups. I can't see it passing Peter's Wife's Prestige test though. :(

I have a yeti at the moment and its not got that prestige feel to it, its probably to small for that, but its good to drive, handles well in all weather, it's comfortable, you can remove the rear seats and make a van, and its bullet proof, it never goes wrong. it also has pretty good fuel consumption i get 55 mpg regularly and even if you give it some herbs it still is in the mid 40's, its a great car.

Private Education
Family had 'staff'
Trained in Law - Medical negligence
and a NHS Consultant Dr....

So yes rather posh esp compared to the guy she is wit!

Skoda will not cut the mustard as well...just not 'nice' enough.

I think the Evoke and V60 are the likelihood... but would like to wait for the newer model of the latter if there is time.

I bought the missus an ML last month and she loves it.
I'm quite taken with it as well.

However, it is rather large, so I would assume that it fits into the 'too large' category.

If she is a medical negligence lawyer and ex consultant a yeti is v unlikely.
So should the be the budget of 24 :p

No offence intended to any Evoke owners, but if we're applying an old-school "posh" test, I would have thought the Volvo wins hand-down.

An Evoke is a very nicely engineered car (if you can look beyond its squashed bug appearance!), but, let's face it, it's what Range Rover have introduced to allow more "less wealthy" people own a car with a Range Rover badge on the front. It's the "new-money" / flashy upstart, trying (successfully) to trade on the luxury connotations associated with the Range Rover brand (which has also gone a bit down the bling / flashy route).

Volvo, on the other hand give the impression that they know they don't have to try and be flash, so have stayed very true to what their brand has always been about - which I think is very well engineered, very safe, very robust, slightly "dull" looking cars which are close to being classless.

As such, if I were buying a car at that kind of price point, and it mattered whether it fitted in with the old-school upper class, I'd buy a Volvo over an Evoke any day of the week.

Ha ha...like most old fashioned 'toffs' she does not want to be too showy or spend the fund for the new roof!

I still enjoy our BMW X3 Xdrive 2.0d. 14Km/l on a long journey, and here (in Chile) diesel is half the price of regular petrol..

Really a fun drive in sport mode. The thing hauls butt! The brakes are good, but pad and disk wear is higher than I would like (maybe how I drive) - that is about the only criticism.

I'm just wondering why Peter needs a "Family" SUV??
Something to announce. Lol.
If it must be an SUV then the XC 60 looks good!
Some cracking g low mileage cars I. Your budget and I suspect if you wait until January you can drive a hard bargain
