Which Alfa would be the safest option but still offer a sporty drive?

I need to get a winter car and was looking at the alfa romeo range.
It seems the safest bet whilst still having a good looking car but which model would the forum recommend?
I like the breara and also the 3.2 spyder but think a coupe is the wisest route.
What cars, up to 5 years old, were the most solidly built and reliable of the AR range and still look good today?
what pitfalls are there with the Alfa`s?
I need a bit of performance but definatly, good looks and reliability for the car.
I would appreciate any opinions and will then do research on the models sugested.
many thanks

You've answered your own question - a coupe.
Look at the GT range. I know it goes against the grain but the best variant seems to be the diesel. The most annoying thing with the GT is the possibility of a rattly rear hatch. Otherwise it's based on the 156/147 and therefore well proven.

If you want a foil for your car, go practical - 156 Sportwagon with the V6. Fast, decent enough handling, dirt cheap and stuff in the back!

Wish I needed one!

159 is a real looker...GT is lovely and goes well...Brera is stunning but too heavy even in V6 form.......Go GT or 159........

couldn't agree more, i have only started to really like Alfa's in recent months, they just have something about them which makes you go all funny inside, dont get that with a BMW unless M is on the bootlid and i dont mean a 318D with an M plaque on the back.

The Estate model does look rather nice. The Ti spec is the one to have, it is the most expensive variant but you get the nice leather and tasty wheels.

Yep you could just open her tail gate...looks like there is lots of room to put you load.
