I got a bit warm today whilst driving to Newton Abbott so when i climed back into my car in the carpark and started her up i thought "i`ll drop the roof down" got a bit of an audience of admirers about now so i press the button and the motors wind up and the roof partially opens then...stops........bit odd so i close it and try again...nope stoped again half way through the cycle.
so a bit embarrassed now at the well meaning onlookers turning there noses up and starting to walk away,i decide to drive off and investigate somewhere quiet.
I partially open the roof and have a peek to see if something is stopping the roof travel and i see the problem.
the Ball nut that the electronic strut attaches to in the boot has completely snapped off and the little "ball" is inside the strutt.
That takes some breaking!!
I have asked and it seems to be a complete strutt thats required as they do not sell the part individually and also its gonna be a buggrer to get that little ball out without drilling a small hole in it and screwing into it so that pliers can be used to extract it..
Anyone else has one of these snap?

Thats go to be a fault. My Golf is almost 20 years old and still on its first roof...after all the issues you have had thats enough to trow the towel in!

There was a spyder on e-bay a while ago being broken for parts, maybe they can help!

Not sure but i think it doubles up as the hydraulic oil reservoir as well so not cheap.
I can fix it if i can get the Ball out as its the same size and pattern ball nut as the ones that take the boot and bonnet struts so worse case i will just have a floppy boot for a while and look for a similar part at some breakers Yards.
Think maserati will stand by there cars build quality?

If you can get it out cleanly I'd be minded to run a drill though it and its other half, tap the hole and screw them together - especially if its been moved to the boot where the load is less.

Cheers

Good thought ,I will try to source the part anyway.
