I think these new oils are way too thin, it's like pouring water in there! Of course it's all going to end up back in the sump and not were its meant to be.
Yep and apparently some folks find a higher viscosity oil helps too - I've heard some FM dealers using 10W60 oil which helps both this and also lifter/tappet noise.

What's the outcome CK?

sorry had a busy weekend

checked the engine oil - not below the minimum level but at the bottom 1/3.

i warmed the car to reach 90 degree before i did the check as the manual said

not sure if is this level of oil been "too low" hence the noise - gone top up the oil and we will see

which and where should i buy the engine oil?

Regarding initial top end noise on first start-up, I changed to Mobil 1 10w-60 fully Synthetic & the ' problem has stopped.

My QP 'feels smoother' with this oil & the viscocity helps keep the hydraulic tappets & variator lubricated during initial cranking of the engine.
BTW This oil grade is used in the M5

Cheers

Any feedback CK? I've just stated mine after being away for some time and no noises from the engine at all so has to be the fact that the oil was low, weird but there you go. Always check the levels me thinks.

The video noise is from the air pumps. The car pumps air into the cats until they are fully hot, then shuts off. It only lasts 20-30 seconds, but doesn't start until the initial startup procedure is complete (about 4-5 seconds in). Then after that the exhaust will get quiet again as the cats are now getting up to temperature.

The sound you are looking for is immediate at startup. As soon as the engine spins over the first time, there will be some clacking as the pressure builds under the hydraulic valves, pushing them into their final position. This is inevitable in most of the dry sump cars, and can happen in the wet sump cars as well and will happen every time the pressure drains away, which it will over a bit of time. The variator noises are similar but last much longer. It is clicking and should come from the valve area on the car. Result will be missing and a number of other random errors.

If you feel nothing, and are not under warranty, drive away. If you hear a bad noise that continues for a long time (30-40 seconds+) then take thee to a dealer/indy.

I will check my oil when I get a moment.

As far as I know oil was recently topped up, although I do have Mobil 1 New Life 0w-40 if mixing with shell isnt considered too harsh?
