From previous posts think OP is way South of this car which is in Glasgow.
Might be worth getting a message to "outrun" (Athol) as this is on his doorstep. He may know the car or he might go and have a look at it if he can. He had a Stradale and knows his Maseratis.

I know values are dirt cheap at the moment, but when you consider there are only 311 MC Shift (robotised manual) on the road in the UK, and 31 SORN; relative rarity combined with perceived desirability...are these cars a decent long term bet in terms of value?

Confession...
At times the idea of an i8 appeals. But it lacks the sound and exquisite Italian styling. I still like them as a package though, and it would suit my usage.

I've driven one and would have one in a shot as a daily drive.

Just to update you guys, I took a punt and put a small deposit on this yesterday. All being well, I should be picking this up on the weekend.

Would anyone advise a due-diligence check list for when I'm there, and things I need to do before hand (Like a HPI check for instance - is there any particular site that you guys recommend?). My car knowledge is about as good as a tyre kick....

I'm taking my father in law who has a background in Engineering, and know's his car to be fair, but I just wanted to know if there are any specifics you guys would recommend I should do.

Also, in terms of insurance, am I best just using confused.com, or would you recommend anyone? Regarding finances, I think I'm going to be okay to get this sorted without any borrowing, so that's one less obstacle.

Definitely have an HPI check, as you need to know its not been crashed and that there is no outstanding finance on the car. Try www.hpicheck.com

Ideally, prior to the final purchase, you'd have the car inspected by a local Maserati specialist or main dealer, at a cost of approximately £200 plus VAT. But if you're not doing this, make the standard test-drive basic checks such as starting the car from cold and checking it sounds okay, look for any oil leaks, check all the electrical goodies work and that there are no warning lights on, and check that it drives and brakes in a straight line with your hands of the wheel.

Check the paperwork, the V5, the book-pack, service history. And makes sure the chassis numbers on that match those on the car.

And finally, if buying privately, do check that the person you pay is actually the owner!

For insurance, you might be best to call a specialist broker such as Pace Ward Insurance (01782 286311). But no harm looking on-line also.

Usual common sense stuff really.

Lovely car. Really like those carbon trims on the exhaust tips, not seen them before. Wouldn't mind some myself!

Parks of Hamilton will be the closest MD to inspect the car if it is in Glasgow. They may have serviced it as well. Only other one as far as I know is Graypaul in Edinburgh and there are no Indies any closer.

Yeah, it's been recently serviced at Graypaul in Edinburgh. Thanks for the help :)

Try the forum sponsor for an insurance quote... their new staff member is rather cute too.

Regarding insurance, I think I read on your other thread you're a similar age to me (29) ? I haven't had mine a year yet so haven't renewed, but when I initially insured it I was still 28, with 8 yrs NCB and a previous claim and it was about £900 with Churchill, which I didn't think was too bad.

Hi mate. Yeah, that’s right. That’s really good. The problem is, I’ve always been a named driver on my dads policy, and not a policy holder. So, I have no claims bonus. Also, I had an accident a couple of years ago which required a settlement.

However, after looking around, I’ve got a quote around £1500ish, which isn’t too bad given the circumstances. Thanks for the heads up btw.

Ah I see, well with that said then I don't think that's too bad at all! You'll forget all about the costs when you're driving it anyway, you can't really put a price on the way these cars make you feel! :D

Don't take it to Parks, they don't know what they're doing. Only use Graypaul for main dealer stamps/inspections and for other maintenance use Stewart Roden.

I think I saw this car a couple of weeks ago, sounded great.

Will Stewart Roden do Maserati? I phoned him a few years ago and he pretty much said he wasn't interested. That was the 4200 so maybe he will do a GT?
