Time for new rears - who & where?

After 10,000 miles and 13 months the tread on the rear tyres is now level with the wear bars, and it's getting a bit wild in the wet.

So, where to go for new tyres? Went to Meridian and they quoted "about" 600 quid for the pair. I would like to think that this is the fitted price inc vat, but I don't know for sure. Any other suggestions near Southampton or Bournemouth? Are mobile fitters to be considered?

TIA

Cheers P, I'll have a proper chat with Meridian and then have a search through the sites listed.

Hope I get that much mileage out of my GTS as I was only getting 6-7k out of rears on the 4200. If £600 is fitted incl VAT then it seems good value to me.

I just used Blackcircles. If you prefer going high street, Kwik Fit will price match (they didn't have the tyre in my size)

I've done a few long motorway trips with may have extended the miles.
But that said, I do love flooring it through the gears and have done a small amount of track work for the Autocar shoot and the wet grip day, so I guess they've not done bad.

When I looked through the links in the thread posted by P, Yokohama & Conti's were well priced but I think I'd rather stick with Pzero's from a matching the fronts and an originality point of view.

What's the thoughts on this?

I just put P-Zero's on mine, like you, to go with originality. I went for Falken's on the rear earlier this year and they seem to be doing fine. A number of people in the know I've spoken to since (well respected mech and a few tyre fitters) have all said something along the lines of "you must be mental putting Falkens on that". Even when going back with "but everyone rates them!" they have all, without exception, said maybe so, but I wouldnt do it.

HOWEVER, having just removed two P zeros and replaced with p zeros, I won't go for them again. One was knackered (all out of shape) while the other, to me, looked in great shape. When I asked to keep it for a spare, the chap sai "let me show you something...." The tyre walls were split, severely. To the point the fella said "you can have the tyre, by all means, but I wouldnt want to think you'd put it on a car, I certainly wouldnt". I've got a pic somewhere and will add later.

Second choice for me, and I wish I'd gone with them now, is Conti Sports Contact 3's. They've recent been voted tyre of the year in Evo I think. Similar money to PZeros.

I know its a hard choice sometimes Woody , sort of sweet shop choice with too much to choose from , But the Vred Sessanta will take some beating , rating wise wet wise and price wise , for £600 (camskill) you can kit out the Gransport correct sizes or slightly wider for that money it makes real sense

Oh and the added tread pattern is so sexy with the Guigaro stamp on the tyre wall , if your a poser like me you can always pick it out in white

It maybe to do with how well the GT/GTS is set up viz a viz the 4200.

I test drove a GT on a cold, dry March and got less loss of traction in it than in my 4200 on the same day despite the fact that the GT had the OEM P Zeros on it and i had Continental winter tyres on the 4200 at the time.

I would stick with the OEM P Zeros for two reasons:
-no point on having split makes on opposing axles on such an expensive, new car; and
-no issue with going onto another brand at a later stage (for all 4) but why should you be the test pilot? We know what works and what does not on the 4200 but for the GT/GTS it is too new for the empirical evidence to be out there.

All IMHO FWIW.

Meridian came back with £685 inc vat fitted, so I've booked it in for next week.
Good enough VFM and convenient.

Apparently they're in short supply, so if you need some you might want to put an order in....
