It's a shame that Maserati stopped making a more 'pure' sports car like the F-type. The 4200 and GS were more in that sports-car mould whereas the GT lived up to its name very well.

Both work well on those long, smooth, quite-empty French roads.

Anyone else planning on watching the Grand Tour on Friday?

The mustard ain't bad...nor are the empty route nationals and route departments...there's a few fit french women too...then there's South of France, still warm at the end of September...but yeah... France is rubbish

French mustard is rubbish!

English mustard is the only mustard worth having! And it has to be Colemans! Accept no substitutions!

I agree on the F Type after driving one. A vwry exiting but different car to the GT and not sure you would get a good F Type R for 35k these days. They Have gone up in price like most cars…Looking at the classifieds you now need 40k plus.
Well I have just gone from a GT to an F type V8 and I agree it has a very different feel. It is a fantastic drive. Technology has moved on as we all know- much as I loved my GT (an amazing car) the Jag does everything just a bit better- better brakes, better ride/handling/better climate/Sat Nav/steering/ sound system /superb ZF 8 speeed box and all the modern gadgets and features that the GT would have if it was designed today. Not knocking the Granturismo (I loved it for 11 years a fantastic car ,and a 4200 cc before that) just an objective comparison. The supercharged V8 is much torquier and flexible than my old 4.2 V8. The Jag is a very , very good car and great value when you look at what it offers......

I took a serious look at an F-Type convertible, and even got invited to some kind of launch event for the facelift as a result. The biggest problem was the size of the boot. It's a bit bigger that the boot in a Gran Cabrio, but you don't have the option of using the rear seats for overspill. I couldn't see us doing a month long European road trip in an F-Type convertible, whereas it's totally do-able in a Gran Cabrio.

That's the one and only thing anyone should ever learn from Benny: how to travel light. Clean pants, socks, credit card and a stupid hat. Sorted. Clean pants and socks optional.
