Thinking something practical and maserati. Levante v6d

I don't agree, I'd have a Levante over any Land Rover product except the Defender. Every one I've ever owned has been utter rubbish and every few years I pluck up the courage to buy another and then am quickly reminded how rubbish they are. However, I wouldn't have a Levante either unless it was a petrol one. And then I'd still buy a Macan or Cayenne, or maybe another Volvo.

When it come to diesel, I like the torque but I think when it comes time to change the Macan, i'll probably go petrol or maybe some kind of petrol/hybrid/electric/unicorn powered thing. Or maybe a Defender as it's so silly large that I like it.
How you getting on with the Macan S.
Been thinking of one for the missus, but she doesn’t do a lot of miles.
Basically she needs an auto and something higher of ground than normal car.
Her mobility is getting worse.

The Land Rovers do look attractive visually.
Everyone I personally know who currently owns one is on first name terms with their local LR service centre though.

The Velar’s a stunning piece of metal only visually improved by me and the Mrs getting in it.

“First name terms?” - Not me, I’ve never spoken to Russel, Hugh, Rolf, Shane, Kylie, Chris, Edna, Nicole or indeed Margot at RR Southport.

It‘s superb. 2 years in and no issues whatsoever, not even a light bulb. It’s quick enough, the air suspension is great, build is great and it’s only lost about 5k in value which considering 15k miles and we paid main dealer prices, is fine. We’re lucky as it’s stupidly well specced, with 35k of options (against a £45k list price) so it does everything we could want. Heartily recommende.

I’m surprised it’s lost value after the trend in second hand prices over the last year. R u sure?
My Velar insurance came thru and the agreed value went up by 13k!

The velar more of a girls car, no offence lol. A few of my mates have had rr and there never away from a dealer so that ruled them out straight away. I have a test drive next weekend in a levante!!

100% agree...Why would you pick a Lavante over that. Shows you can make a 4x4 look good.
Different strokes for different folks. I believe a Levante in the right spec to be a far better looking car. It’s a considerably better car in my opinion too. This (for an SUV) is decent looking:

What’s an Evoque if a Velar is a chick’s car? Not to mention the abomination that is an Evoque Cabrio.
May well not be a girl’s car in Australia as cars are obscenely expensive there. Something in your defence @Wattie.

I sold a Macan 15 months ago, he’s done 5k miles in it and been offered £2k profit to trade it to Porsche.

LOL.... Evoque Cabrio....what a shocker.....what were they thinking?

We've had a Discovery Sport HSE Luxury Black for 2 years and been very pleased with it. Not too big outside but positive tardis like inside for a family. Only getting rid of it as it is a Diesel with a DPF and wife will be doing school run from Sept less than a mile away also doing less longer journeys.

Bought it for £26k two years ago at 3 years old from LR main dealer with 2 year approved used warranty and just sold to a dealer yesterday through Motorway for £24159. The ride is a bit harsh on 20's with no air suspension and the 8 speed gearbox I'm not a fan of but I never really drive it.

Just decided to replace it with an iPace HSE or First Edition so just need to find the right one.

Also changing my work Outlander PHEV commercial I've had from new for just over 2 years for an XC90 T8.

Not a fan of Levante myself so prefer more utilitarian options like the XC90 and LR Discovery Sport, Discovery, Defender and FF Range Rover. Not a fan of the Evoque and Velar as they are a bit bling/footballer for me and ten a penny round here. Although people I know that have them really like them and say they are good cars.

Enjoy the Levante.
Listen, if I listened to sh1t reviews I’d never have owned Alfa’s......or probably a Maserati.
So far our Velar has been everything I hoped it would be.....more actually....fingers crossed it stays that way and bucks a trend.

Given the amount of BMW bashing that’s been going on recently, this might not be the most popular post - but I deal in facts ;) so here goes: I’ve had X5’s as my SUV for the last 11 years - they are very good all-rounders: roomy ( I have a 7 seater), reliable, good road-holding, more than powerful enough (3.0D, my third car with this engine) with plenty of engine options and I think I can go on. I’ve had my current one for 7 years, I use it as a pick-up when I’m busy at properties, I load sand/stone/bricks etc. It still looks good too in my opinion at least. The new ones have all the electronic aids as well. They are great cruisers, I can drive 800km by myself in one go with ease at relatively high speeds on so-so roads. My only complaint would be it feels a bit hard, but if you want an SUV without roll, that’s what you have to compromise on - mine also has run-flats and low profile tyres so that doesn’t help - the rear are a massive 315/35 R20 Pirelli Zero’s! Now let the BMW bashing (re)commence :)

I’ve had 3
520 when I first started making some cash....broke down in the middle of the Saudi desert when a belt snapped. Other than that a good car and I’ve fond memories as it got me around some remote eastern Provence places in style- at the time.
Then a 330 (from memory), kels car-blue convertible...in Bahrain.
Years later
130 convertible......in Bath...:the only car I’ve made money on- to date
Good solid cars without a stupid grill.

I've had a BMW as a daily for 16 years.
A few issues, but not until they have exceeded 100K.
Never had an X model.
Good friend had a X5M, what a beast, which he has recently changed to Rangie Hybrid.
Biggest mistake he has ever made apparently, it spends more time at the dealers than on his drive.

Had plenty beemers, mostly been fine. M5’s both smashing cars. Think they look awful now with the stupid gigantic grille. Would defo go back to an M car at some point. As for the Range rovers, i like them, however a good mate who has had a few has had serious reliability issues. Just the the other week he paid 62k for one, I jokingly said it would last a week before he took it back, well it lasted 24 hours until the dash was lit up like a Christmas tree. Took them two weeks to sort it out. Cant be bothered with that.

Whilst I'm no fan of SUV's in general - to me it feels like your driving a bus, to come to the defence of the Diesel (as always), there's a reason why the majority of Ghibli's and Levente's and possibly even the current shape QP's were sold as Diesel. They just make more sense in every respect over the Chrysler derived Petrol V6! My car is virtually six years old and has never had any issues with the engine or the car generally, it's very enjoyable to drive, with on long journeys easily over 40mpg. More importantly, as I'm not an 18 year old boy racer, I don't crave every passer by staring at me because of the ridiculously loud exhaust my car has, in fact in terms of refinement for the most part the diesel has the the petrol beat.

I’ve had a couple of M cars, one of which, as in my signature, is the one car I should never have sold. In all I’ve had 11 BMW’s and for the last 23 years I’ve always had at least one at all times. I haven’t had any major breakdowns. Except a blow out on a tyre and no spare, I’ve never had to get carted away. Here in SA we get 5 years or 100k km free maintenance (everything is basically covered except oil between services ( I don’t think I ever had to top up) and tyres (large, low and so expensiv, especially here as all are imported..). So it’s not been expensive. Depreciation has been more than acceptable. I’m sure there are horror stories, those are the ones you hear about of course. But you can’t fault them for quality of build in general.. If you want to leave Maserati for something more practical and economical but still very much driver oriented, BMW is not a bad choice. I do agree that current models aren’t quite as pretty designer wise, but hey, who can beat the Italians on that? My two cents..

I’d not be without my FF RR. Best all-round car there is. Nothing else is equally at home on the farm, at the tip, at the rugby, at a hotel, just everywhere. My current one is already 5 years old and so far the only repair has been a new battery. So I’d count that as perfect reliability. Much like my old one that I had for 8 years. By far the most reliable of all the cars I’ve ever had, making a mockery of the so-called reliability of the likes of a Porsche or Merc.
Maybe I’ve just been lucky with my RR’s and unlucky with my Porsche’s etc.
