The new Ghibli

What is the consensus view on the new Ghibli, now that it has been available for a year?

I've hardly seen any on the road (two to date), which makes me think that it is more of a niche car rather than the BMW/Merc competitor which the price suggested it might be.

Are they just hard to get, or is the demand not really there? Or maybe just not many in my area?!

The dealers I have spoken to say Ghibli started slowly but is beginning to pick up sales. The early diesel engine is not the best, and a lot of fleet buyers are waiting for the new one due next year. (more powerful, cleaner etc) The petrol ones are niche, and a good friend of mine has just traded his XFR for one. Despite dropping more than 240hp he says he is very happy with his Ghibli.

They are fine cars. I have driven the petrol S Ghibli and both the petrol S & diesel QP which are effectively the Ghibli LWB.

The reason they don't appear to sell as much as their competitor cars is that the we keep seeing loads of 520d etc whereas it is 530d/535d/550i that we need to be looking out for and they are very rare too.

The diesel is not slow but sounds disappointing despite the trickery with speakers in the exhausts. Personally I don't understand it's place especially when the S is such a nice engine.

Personally I don't understand it's place especially when the S is such a nice engine.

When I was spec'ing up my own Ghibli back in the summer of 2014, I struggled to understand the physical difference between the engine in the 'S' and the 'standard' Ghibli engine. There was a 10K difference in cost between the two models, but from what I could tell there was not an awful lot more than a difference in engine mapping across the two. (Does anyone know for sure?)

That was part of the problem I had with the purchase: I wanted the 'full fat' version, but wasn't really prepared/able to pay c.70K (inc. options).

see one often at my train station.
Doesn't get a second look any more, since i Parked my QP nearby :D

Seriously, I am sure it is a great car, but just looks a bit characterless.

I have only seen one in the flesh and to be fair I don't mind them.........not convinced they will ever be classics but good enough looking cars imo

3 or 4 in my area all diesel (reserve the right to change my opinion for the petrol version)
Have had a look inside and out and they are fine inside and growing on me on the outside
but
they are too quiet, a bit bland in styling and have not the same class as a QP(V) - don't know about the latest QP
so in conclusion
only ok

There's one in dark grey regularly parked in the car park I use for work in Leeds city centre. The appearance is growing on me but it is a bit conservative for a Maserati. I think the problem is probably that they are going for the sort of person who would buy a Jaguar instead of a BMW/Audi/Mercedes and therefore they can't go too out there.

It still looks better than the new QP IMHO
