Suspension Warning Light / Acceleration

The suspension warning light on my GS has just appeared and has coincided with restricted acceleration - are the two connected or is it just bad luck?

I have read the posts about fuse 16 but don't see any mention of a safety restriction on acceleration.

Any ideas?

Odd one that, I would do a battery reset before you get your wallet out:

Drop the drivers door glass an inch
Open boot and turn the battery off by twisting the battery isolator knob located just in front of the battery.
Leave for a couple off hours or ideally overnight
Turn the battery back on
Without touching the pedals, start the engine and leave to idle for 20 mins
Turn off engine
Reset complete.

You need to have it diagnosed, I would take it to your nearest Indie, where abouts are you?

Sorry, the penny has just dropped, its my old car isnt it?

Can honestly say I never had any issues with it.

I have just had a look at Acceleration Sensor Repair thread and it would seem to fit and you are probably correct, then engine has gone into limp mode due to the issue, but I would still take it for a diagnostic, your nearest indie would be:

Autofficina
Chessington, United Kingdom
Website
Description Italian car dealer / servicing etc
Phone 020 8391 0002

or a bit further, Rob at Grimaldi is excellent:
Grimaldi Engineering
Unit 2a, Fifth Avenue
Bluebridge Industrial Estate
Halstead, Essex

I had mine come on one day after a bit of spirited driving,Car didnt go into limp mode persae but it definatly slowed down.
I got back home and thought Oh yeh another problem..figures.
I did a full reset and it went away.
I have from time to time had errors and other such problems but a turn of the ingnition key to off and back on again seems to get rid of these problems.
However i did decide to check my oil the other day (not expecting these cars to lose oil) and i noted that the oil level was off the dipstick.
Got it in for an oil change and filter fast !! i had no warning lights but i am "in tune" with the car and felt something sounded a little different.
I wondered what oil was best for the car as the Garage seemed to think Castrol Edge 5W-40 was the dogs...

Could buy yourself an ODBII reader to see what faults have been logged - just plug it in and read away (but don't clear the faults!). It's not going to give you the detail of the SD readers, but it might give you a rough idea of what might be up.

Limp mode is not uncommon following a recorded fault, the ECU tries to protect from the problem being exacerbated. Never had it in my GS, but my 3200 would occasionally get restricted to 3000RPM.

Hi Matt

had a message from someone with exactly the same symptoms and they said it was a throttle potentiometer problem and once replaced, solved the problem.

I am in Knebworth (between Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage on the A1), are there any good independents nearer to me?

Tim, remember you have the Formula Dynamics DBW on your throttle system, an email to Jeff might not be a bad idea to see if he has had any issues. Also this is spliced into the throttle loom so it might be an idea to have this checked out before you go buying parts.

I did give you the bypass key for this system, I think it was in the little box with the tyre valve caps from memory. If you look under the steering column where the switch is for the aggressiveness for the DBW and follow it back you will see the slot the key plugs into. Then do a full battery reset. It might do nothing but will eliminate the DBW unit from being at fault.

Just an update on this one, I spoke to Tim about month ago and he informs me it was an error with the DBW or more probably so the wiring.

He pulled it and sold it, and the problem went away.

Just though you should know incase it comes up again with another car running the DWB system.
