I just had an hours blast round Bruntingthorpe. Gosh!
I'm new to performance cars, new to maserati, and had no idea what these cars are capable of. If that's how a Spyder handles and performs with a bit of chassis missing, I'm really looking forward to when I get the piece fitted.
The circuit was basically empty and I had an ex-copper advanced driving instructor giving me guidance and egging me on to brake later, get off the brakes earlier, keep the power on, go a bit faster next time and generally try to push either my bravery or the car. I now have great respect for my wee beastie, and must say that my bravery was the only thing troubled today.
It was a great day, we covered safe driving while "making progress" on a few interesting A-roads for a couple of hours, then hit the track and had some fun, but a bit of seriousness too, deliberately going into corners wrongly to see how the car reacted and how to recover. Trouble was, the spyder behaved herself far too much, it took a lot of pushing to get any kind of reaction from either the front or the rear. Much respect all round.
Oh, and I got up to 145 on the straight before I bottled it, but felt I could have pushed much harder and still felt safe. It's a blimming bumpy surface though, so maybe somewhere else for the max speed experience!
I can heartily recommend Ride Drive, and Simon Clowes in particular. He has taught me a lot and made me think hard about driving techniques and styles in a single day.
Can't wait to hit the track again in my rather super supercar. Gosh!
