Super car!

I just had an hours blast round Bruntingthorpe. Gosh!

I'm new to performance cars, new to maserati, and had no idea what these cars are capable of. If that's how a Spyder handles and performs with a bit of chassis missing, I'm really looking forward to when I get the piece fitted.

The circuit was basically empty and I had an ex-copper advanced driving instructor giving me guidance and egging me on to brake later, get off the brakes earlier, keep the power on, go a bit faster next time and generally try to push either my bravery or the car. I now have great respect for my wee beastie, and must say that my bravery was the only thing troubled today.

It was a great day, we covered safe driving while "making progress" on a few interesting A-roads for a couple of hours, then hit the track and had some fun, but a bit of seriousness too, deliberately going into corners wrongly to see how the car reacted and how to recover. Trouble was, the spyder behaved herself far too much, it took a lot of pushing to get any kind of reaction from either the front or the rear. Much respect all round.

Oh, and I got up to 145 on the straight before I bottled it, but felt I could have pushed much harder and still felt safe. It's a blimming bumpy surface though, so maybe somewhere else for the max speed experience!

I can heartily recommend Ride Drive, and Simon Clowes in particular. He has taught me a lot and made me think hard about driving techniques and styles in a single day.

Can't wait to hit the track again in my rather super supercar. Gosh!

Good work, I've done a few open pit days usually at brands hatch in previous cars I've had, and its not til you push them up to and beyond their limits you realise their full potential.

Hope it wasn't too harsh on our brakes and tyres.

Thanks, JDM. the Brakes faded at one point, but bounced back quite quickly. The pedal felt different, like it was pushing back even though there was no braking going on, so I'm guessing the fluid boiled, but that is a complete guess as I have no previous experience to go by.

I didn't really push the tyres - that's to come on another day as my bravery increases.

Chris,
Fantastic feeling when you get to stretch their legs a bit, that is what they are built for and why we love driving them.....SMILE..!!!

I thought the day was spent on the track, this item is for on road and 140mph I would think would be frowned on..??

It's part road and part on a track, track is described as "off-road private driving" as presumably some are just airfields.

Excellent stuff and thanks for the write up

Please could you let us know which option you did? Can't see one with a track option: http://www.ridedrive.co.uk/performance-driving-menu.htm

Many thanks

EDIT: Found it...i think it's this: http://www.ridedrive.co.uk/performance-car-hps03pm.htm

That's the one!
And yes, it's airfield stuff, went to Bruntingthorpe. The runway part is a bumpy straight (2 miles long!) but they have made a few fun smooth corners and a chicane and it was more than adequate for a first timer in a performance car. I'd love to try a "proper" race track sometime soon.

Did you do a full day or half day? Dependant on which you did did you find it too long/too short?

Cheers

Did the full day, and thought it was worth taking the extra time, put what I learned in the morning & on the airfield into practice for the second half.

Chris,
Sounds cool if you can also put your foot down, it does not seem to say that in the blurb..!!

145? Seems you didn't read their blurb: "... Standard road speeds will not be exceeded." LOL

Sounds like you had a lot of fun.

Did I say 145??? Meant 72.5 of course! Honest mistake.

Ha ha ha!

On the airfield I was pretty much let off the leash, and encouraged to push myself and the car. On the road, I was encouraged to make the most of the car within the speed limit...which really meant "within a safe speed" - not always the same thing on a nice winding A-road, but they make it very very clear that you are not under instruction, you drive and they offer advice. Any speeding on the road is your own decision and your own "fault".
