Sticky buttons and trim on 04 4200GT

I remember the sensation of touching the window buttons on the first drive I had with my 4200. It was not a pleasant sensation.

5 years later they have not gotten any better and sadly other buttons and trim have joined the party. My finger prints are now recorded on most buttons!

I read the forums, watched the YouTube videos and still took the paint off with my first try. I popped into a local Ferrari specialist and was advised that no one can help once you see white plastic.

This led me to scour the web and find a company in Europe that can strip, repaint and laser etch each button to as new condition. I'm hoping for a high standard as its 1500 Euros.

Great service from them so far with parts being collected from my front door and returned by DHL.

Photo attached of what will be redone.

I did have some personal success with the headlight aim switch and found that cleaning with a baby wipe, then paper towel dried allowed me to rub my thumb/thumbprint over the surface which rolled of the sticky layer nicely.

I shall use this process for the air vents as they are made out of black plastic whilst everything else is being sent off.

Does any one have experience of how the plastic lasts without the sticky coating? I read that some people sprayed them with lacquer after removing this layer?

Another question is how much better does the car feel after getting switches sorted and non sticky? It's the only real sign of age in the whole interior and should be like new when all put back together.

I somehow don't find the before and after photos as it's been 3 years since, but I did find a photo sent by the vendor:

Done all my air vents back to black plastic 6 years ago I did not paint or lacquer them cos in the future you may end up with the problem of lacquer cracking your vents will look great just back to plastic .

I've been fortunate enough to have worked accross Europe with Automotive Engineers and technicians. I have only positive things to say about experiences in Czech Republic. Great people and a great eye for detail.

They are also able to provide a new rear plastic housing for the satnav.

I spoke with revolve in the UK today and price wise it's almost identical however that is without the UK company being able to rectify the satnav with a new component.

Parts are being collected by DHL from their end. Packaged appropriately and all I have to do is hand it over at the door

Me neither….
Maybe I got Roland on a good day, it was Xmas; I think I paid about £500 for mine.
IIRC, from conversations with Roland, he does gets work from Ferrari when they want restorative stuff doing. Pretty good vote of confidence Id say…

I had my sticky buttons done at carplastix and I must say they were great! Expensive, yes. But since then my interior looks like new.

I’ve just been in Paul’s workshop @ Revolve Automotive. He has a Ferrari 575 in there, doing an entire interior restoration; the attention to detail as well as all the other work he can do such as leather work and trim pieces etc means the owner will be absolutely amazed when he sits in his ‘new’ Ferrari next week. Spoke to Paul about pricing and he charges less than the Czechs.

Buttons are ready!
And looking fantastic.

Both of the steering cowls were broken near the little countersunk screws.

A very impressive repair.

Just have to get them shipped back in one piece now
