Steering/Steering Fluid

Hi all,

started to hear some funny abrasion sounds when pulling a hard right on the steering. Turns out there is another Maserati 4200 in the next street so the owner, great guy, thought a top up of steering fluid might be needed. So we topped it up a couple of weeks ago and all has been fine until today when the sound is back, checking the steering fluid it's low again. So a couple of questions.

1) Any idea what could be eating the steering fluid

2) What's the best steering fluid to buy for a 4200 coupe so I can get some to keep it topped up until resolved.

Many thanks in advance as always.

Hi Stephen, a common fault, check the steering oil cooler sat just in front of main radiator, should see some staining if its that, other wise the hoses and rack itself

I did a fix for this in the fixes sections....have a look, oil type in handbook

Great thanks for your help although not too sure where to look for the fix, any chance of posting a link ?

Also any thoughts on the best steering fluid to keep it topped up until resolved.

Thanks again
Stephen

I would also add that on full left lock my n/s tyre rubs on the inner arch so be sure that is not your problem also...

check the two big hose couplings on to the rack they can come loose, you will see fluid. as stated above main cooling radiator does not last forever, so check this too.
