Squeaky binnacle

Got a gadget that acts as clamp to secure a smartphone to the top of the binnacle, quite brilliant, holds the iPhone rock solid but I think because of the weight it's causing a lot of squeaking from the binnacle. Looking through service history previous owner had a problem with it and Charles Hurst attempted to fix it basically by stuffing rubber pads under the binnacle 'hood'.

Anyone else come across this and have a fix?

If your using the type of clamp i think you are it will end up leaving a dent / imprint in the top of the binnacle.

The dent it leaves overtime can be massaged out with heat / steam applied but its a faff.

Try and spread the load across a wider foot print if you can.

This one. Cheap and does the job, but a bit agricultural…

Word of warning: if you're trying to take apart the instrument cluster be prepared for lots of swearing and unnecessary effort because of the utterly terrible screws Maserati decided to use to hold the car together. They seem to be made of some sort of semi permanent metal-like substance which have the structural integrity of chocolate on a warm day rather than, say, steel.
