Spyder roof

Could anyone tell me whether the roof should normally close softly onto the windscreen frame as mine seems to crash quite violently onto the frame which worries me. Everything else in the operation works fine but once it goes past vertical it accelerates towards the screen so I’ve taken to stopping at this point then doing small increments.

It isn’t supposed to crash onto the frame. The webbing in the roof is probably losing it’s elasticity - see various threads and comments on the forum about how to fix this before your roof jams.

It’s a bit firmer than ‘soft close’, as the levers on the roof need to engage with the slots in the frame before the hydraulics kick in and pull it closed.

There are quite a few threads on the forum, it is a common problem and not expensive to fix in general.

This thread is probably the best one.

I’d read that before ordering any parts. The webbing you need to replace is pretty generic but if you start fiddling with the wrong bits of the roof you can mess it up quite badly. Also it’s likely that any convertible specialist would be able to fix it, if you don’t fancy it yourself. There’s nothing specific to Maserati about the problem.
