Needs to learn what the pedal on the right is for!! ;)
Not for a 200+ mile drive after a days work... definitely for short bursts but not consistently. This post has met a bit of resistance! Just tried to show the extra lengths the car can go to on order to cater for varying driving types.

I've managed to get 23 mpg driving in 50mph speed contolled motorway conditions in and out of London in ICE mode. <begs forgiveness>:worried1: from the collective

But 31mpg really is frugal!

Hi all,

I had a decent journey to do today and was pleasantly surprised by the MPG that could be achieved! Combination of motorway miles and country roads.

This was achieved in ICE mode.

31.3MPG over about 210 miles! Pic attached.
There is a school of thought in some quarters where damage to the variators is more common in cars driven consistently in a frugal manner. Something to do with oil starvation in the top of the engine, You have been warned!

100% agree clearly not trying hard enough

I once managed 8.4mpg in the 4200

You are good. We do like a good bit of banter especially on mpg. I am happy with 24mpg on a trip down to Le Mans within all speed limits of course. ;)

That’s a good one.
‘Sorry officer, I have to drive this fast or risk damage to my variators from oil starvation’.

Bet they haven’t heard that one before!

I spent 40p/mile on that trip and it was barely 1k miles. Maybe I have a hole in the petrol tank!

But in all seriousness the old 4200s can barely do 20mpg so if you do a bit of light modifying like a free flowing exhaust that turns into 15mpg... Floor it a couple of times on slip roads and then you are down to 12mpg... Try to keep up with a certain white Aston Martin V12 Vantage or black Ferrari FF 8.4mpg

On the flip side when on my honeymoon road trip to Amalfi and back the long way we did 3500 miles and it returned around 17mpg and spent around £800-£900 on fuel

The FF has every gadget possible in its computer except mpg. And it‘s not because they forgot.

Shouldn’t you change your username to LIFTY now? Llando is Faster than You....

I picked my Ghibli up from Sheffield last Friday and drove the 60 miles home, all motorway, at 80mph with an occasional 90mph and got 28mpg. Went out for a drive on Sunday with Mrs1963 to discover the joys of sport manual and returned 16mpg. Much more fun.

As has been said..... That must have been a very boring journey ;)
However, that is actually very impressive!

I've never used ice mode before, even in ice and snow lol (more fun not too lol) but it's good to know what can be achieved.

A good time to put it to use, might be when low on fuel and trying to make the petrol station lol.

FYI for comparison, I seem to always average about 19 mpg, with mainly fast A and B road driving and a bit of motorway cruising . This is over a few thousand miles of daily use, always in Sport Manual.
