Sat Nav Antenna

Where exactly is the antenna located? Is it immediately above the clock?
Weird thing on my car the one I've found in this location goes to the tracker, my sat Nav has worked until recently but no longer!
On the rear of my NIT only the green fakra connection is used, the phone option does not work even though there's a SIM card reader and an IMEI number on the label!
Anyway I want to remove the track star unit with all its ancillaries, does anyone know if any of the cars circuits such as ignition are routed through this type of immobiliser? As one of the components mentions ignition input and output fuse sizes, there is an Ericsson GSM module GM12 and another module with the letters SKII embossed on it which the antenna and other wiring goes to. There seems to be no connection between all these parts and the NIT so I am baffled why the SAT NAV ever functioned, no-one else has worked on these systems other than me during my ownership, answers on a post card pleaseimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

When I retro fitted Sat Nav to the 2003 (04 MY) coupe the antenna plugged into the green two pin connector of the NIT. i routed the wires behind the dash and into the centre vent where the factory unit ks located.

Check David Howsons NIT post for details of the unit.

David's post states that the grey plug is for the GPS? Confusing as my NIT has only ever had anything plugged into the green socket, clarification anyone?image.jpg

The grey socket is definitely GPS and the green for a phone GSM aerial.
If your car was not optioned for the GSM phone, the NIT unit does not have the green phone GSM aerial socket.
Does your car have the phone microphone fitted? built into the base of the rear view mirror.
Also is the phone option accessible on the menu of the NIT unit?
The two external units, the ericsson GSM, and the other one a GPS unit, have nothing to do with the NIT, and should have their own independent GPS and GSM aerials to phone home to the tracking monitoring company.

Thanks for that will get one ordered with a grey GT5 plug, no microphone in my mirror, tbh I just want the Sat Nav to function again, will sort it from here, don't know how it has functioned previously but it has!
Also want to remove the tracker and all associated wiring which was put in by an ape with no skill, shocking install on what was quite a high end car new, they have stuck components in with silicone & duct tape!

Hi Miket

I've just gone through the same thing. My sat nav worked to a degree without a sat nav antenna fitted. This led to lots of head scratching before i took the arm rest apart to see if the antenna was connected or faulty. The information i got was there is a speed sensor built into the nit that will move the arrow around on the map. Its the grey plug that is GPS antenna. G5 connection about £8 on ebay. You can fit it under the centre dash vent and drop the cable down the dash and along the centre consol under the trim and up into the arm rest to connect to the NIT.

I currently have mine sat in the cupholder until i sort out the language issue on mine.

Guys, to all you buying and installing an antenna. When you first install it you wont connect. Make sure you drive around a bit then the antenna will pick up the satelites. I know, I been thru it

Thanks for the replies, I have completely removed the trackstar with no problems and have put the car back together. I have left a fish wire in between antenna location and NIT for ease when new antenna arrives, will update once fitted❗️

The quick way of getting the sat nav to pick up the new antenna is go into the hidden nit menu and run the gps diagnostic. saves driving around for 10-15 minutes. If you run the GPS diagnostic it will connect and the sat nav icon will go green in around 20 seconds.

link on how to get into the hidden menu below. Ignore the last stages to change the language your going as far as step L and then look for the diagnostic options. there are two from memory radio and GPS.

Well Sat Nav now fully functional again butstill baffled how it worked previously.and the Track Star fully removed with no issues. I am actually glad it's out as the installation was very poor, more of a fire hazard than a security aid, all is good in Maserati world!

New antenna £8.49 eBay, the Sat Nav is definitely the grey socket on the rear of the NIT.

Great to see that my old information keeps popping up to help!
It was several years ago as Pete says, I doubt I could remember without looking again.

Best wishes

Mine has always had the green plug connected and has an IMEI No on the label, might try a SIM card in it to see if it responds!!!
