Rise of the used car market

We have an 09 RR which we throw everything in, including muddy dogs. In my head I had it valued at sub £10k but over here two people have offered my over €20k for it, problem is anything else that can do the same is the same money so might as well stick with the devil i know
Likewise! I bought a very well cared for 09 RR TDV8 Autobiography for that purpose. 150k miles for less than six grand. 18 months/18k miles later it has cost, a service, a couple of tyres, set of brakes and a lower arm; less than 2k spent. Polish it up and it doesn't look out of place next to all the 100k RRs at school sports. It makes me smile thinking about the depreciation I am not suffering. It will also take 4 of us six footers to Spa for the weekend in August in great comfort.
I guess the key is to find one that has been services to schedule and issues dealt with - just like an older Maserati! Otherwise you could need to spend a few k putting it right first. fullfatrr forum may be a source of enthusiast owned cars.

There seem to be 3 strategies:

  1. buy new or young used and trade in every x (say 2-3) years or 50k miles
  2. buy new or young second hand and keep long term / till shot
  3. buy a banger and replace when shot
Personally I’m a number 2 for most of my cars (young second hand), so I wait till I find the right spec and then keep it for say 8 years. But I buy private.

What do other members do?
For my Jaguar XJ (I have had 6now) I buy very low mileage often former dealer principle cars, tend to be 6-10 months old, fully loaded and about half of retail ……… I then keep for about 3 years.
They still deprecate like **** except the current one that is still valued at what I paid for it 2 years ago.
