Return of the Alfa 4C

‘However, Alfa Romeo highlights that well-maintained examples of the 4C can now command almost double the original price from 2013 in the current market’

Clearly they aren’t looking at the UK market. They were a bit of a flop in the UK. Lots of excitement, orders flowing in then the reviews came out. Great to look at but dynamically flawed. I drove one and it was a nervous car to drive and didn’t fill you with confidence. The steering was real weak point off the car on UK roads and the smallest of bumps would unsettle the car. There are companies though that will fix the dynamics for you these days but it should have been like that from the start. Another miss opportunity by Alfa which is such a shame as it’s a car you look at really want it to be epic. The 6C should be epic though if the Guilia Quadrifoglio is anything to go by as Alfa seem to have got their sh1t together.

Indeed.. I can remember when they were absolutely desperate to try and shift them that they released a lease scheme for less than £300 a month!

My local dealer offered me a £15k discount before I had even taken a sip of my coffee!

I must admit I’ve just looked at Auto Trader and was shocked by the current asking prices and the number of used cars available… I wonder how realistic those prices are? Last time I looked you could pick them up for £35k+

I had a deposit down at the beginning but it wasn’t the car they first said it would be and prices started at one point and went up rather a lot by the time they came out. Got my deposit back and I know a few more that did the same. Still looks great mind you but Lotus did this car so much better.

Yes, was a total own goal and a bit of a missed opportunity - certainly in RHD markets anyway.

I must admit I got a little excited when I saw the announcement, but I expect they’d pick up from where they left off with minor changes other than some paint and trim updates.. Alfa are onto a good thing now, but I expect this to be a marketing stunt more than anything.

I’ve been looking at them for a while and they are selling. The car was really an instant classic even with suboptimal handling on pot hole ridden English B roads. The Alfaworks handling mods and upgrading to Michelin tyres are pretty much essential for enjoying the car in the UK.

Those Alfaworks changes really do transform the car. If a small company can make these changes to make it brilliant I wonder why the might of Alfa couldn’t.

When the car was originally tested in Europe the handling issues were absent from reviews. But, test it on an English B road and you have a different story! Maybe another question is: Should Alfa design and/or modify its cars just for the particularly awful roads on a small group island to the north of France?

It was tremendously underwhelming. Didn't put me off the brand, as we have a Stelvio now. But wanted it to be so much more than it turned out to be...

I would rather they just move on...

Odd choice indeed, and does have a whiff of marketing trick.
However, that 6C sounds very very interesting!
(for some reason Alfas get under your skin... just this weekend, I was looking at a 916 GTV/Spider V6 as a 'stop gap' until the GS is finally on the road. SWMBO however did not see things the same way, presumably as she understands there is a risk the Alfa would stick around anyway :) )
