Refubrished subframes!

We've started a overhaul program for Quattroporte V and GranTurismo subframes.
These have a common serious rust issues (upper control arm buckets rot out) due to a design flaw and poor factory coating.

We have a number of frames in stock that we've blasted, inspected and repaired where needed then powder-coated so these are greatly improved.

At current we have in stock:
  • Quattroporte V ZF
  • GranTurismo
We're waiting on extra core frames to be refurbished for:
  • Quattroporte V DuoSelect/F1 05-07
At the moment we don't yet have core frames for:
  • Quattroporte V 2004 (small bushing control arm aka first production run)
What goes wrong with them?
Basically two issues pop up if used in wet climates, the first issue is nearly invisible until you remove them with MOT's here we usually notice the problem when we can just stick a screwdriver in the lower supports!
  • Firstly the the upper-control arm mounts snuggle fit in the dents/pockets of the chassis rails
    • this traps dirt, mud, moister between the heavily coated chassis and the spray-painted frame just eating away over the years
  • Secondly there is nearly no water drain points
    • Control arm buckets fill with water, salt, mud and it just sits there eating away
    • U profiled beams that attached the frame to the middle chassis rails trap dirt that does the same

Hub's actually we just stock the whole assemblies, we can replace the ABS sensors but haven't yet covered all variants yet of the sensor (there are quite a lot of output signal differences)
That's interesting. I didn't think the sensors could be replaced. Another good news story if they can and last.

good work on the subframes.
Interesting to hear that wheel bearing / ABS sensor can be repaired. Shame I left behind one unit at McGrath.

Surely there has to be a back story to the car, previously flooded and recovered or such like.
That underside is truly shocking - o_O:mad:

So sorry to see this.
Heartsore for the owner.
But how did it develop unnoticed? There must be lessons to be learned here.

I would love to know whether this was a full MD service car. Spent its life by the sea or driven during Northern winters and lots of salt I imagine.

Nice of the owner to dump it on some poor unsuspecting newbie.

He should sell it to a Maserati main dealer if he’s going to sell it to anyone. Maybe they’ll think it’s fine, normal wear and tear……
