The Ms isn’t keen on Naples so I’m thinking Verona is top choice unless I can convince her about Naples.
My wife and I had a few days in Verona a couple of years ago and we absolutely loved it, if you have the time a quick train journey from Verona to lake Garda and ferry trip to Sirmione is also highly recommended.

I went to Verona for three nights for my birthday this year in Feb. It was great and Sirmione’s thermal baths are definitely worth visiting for a dip. Nice restaurants there too.
Lucca is also good for 3 nights and Bergamo is another pleasant city break.

Lucca is Lovely. I think Dr Mrs Eb and I escaped the lunacy of the SM Euro beano to Tuscany one evening and had a lovely meal there. Good times!

Or maybe Sicily? Catania (big, busy) Palermo (biggish, busy), Taormina (quieter, ruins).

Or Malta?
Sicily is lovely, not keen on Palermo, though the drive down to Catania is lovely as the scenery changes. I prefer the South East if the Island, the Baroque towns.

Flights and hotel booked in Verona, thanks everyone.

If you get the chance to go and see an opera at the Arena, do not miss it, its wonderful!

Its something that should be on everyone's bucket list, just remember to hire cushions as the stone seats are a pain in the derrière !
