That's where I'm off to tomorrow! Spur of the moment, just decided nothing else to do this weekend so blasting down to Pareee in the Alfa GT, perfect trip for it, 10hrs of motorways with cruise control and the option for a bit of fun if the need arises :)

I was hoping we could have done this returning from our Swiss trip but it ends in a fortnight, was my last chance really. Plus the Louvre shuts on Mondays!

I'll let you know what's it's like to but to get a feel, try this: http://www.ralphlaurencarcollection.co.uk/

And listen to the engine sounds of the Ferrari V12s... WOW

Wish I had the sports exhaust and Q2 for the Alfa but never mind, I'll cope!

We were so taken by this that I will be looking at having one built to order in these colours!

Just beautiful, for me the star of the show. None of them (save the XK120) were cars you could even ever aspire to owning due to price but the XKSS can be replicated faithfully and is just so much more useable than a C or D-Type replica with weather gear and luggage space!

Have the go ahead, now just need the money. But to be honest, the hardest battle has been won ;)

One of two things will happen - I will either find a pre-built one at the right price, and have it soon, or I will approach the buildera and have it made for me. The first way will cost me £30-40k, the second way more like £80k. But I will be buried with it :)

Birdcage is like having a C or D-Type, it's just not useable. I wouldn't hesitate to take an XKSS replica to Le Mans or Goodwood Revival, maybe even to the Mille Miglia! A C-Type, with Sarah (in goggles) sat in it... Hmm, not good for her hair ;)

See i never understood the fascination with that car, not good looking IMO.

Pretty, no. But it sums up everything to me that is good about vintage racing and vintage motoring and that scene is what I am interested in. The Revival for me makes my year. I know you're a long way away Adam, but you should come down and see these vintage racers in action, I know you're not a fan but the Jags will win you over! Watching a car nailed together by a bearded bloke in Coventry standing up to the unlimited budgets of Ferrari and so on, makes you proud to be British :) Guts and glory!

I bought a pair of Persol folding sunglasses last week. For anyone who knows, it's the brand and style Steve McQuee wore. For anyone who doesn't know, they're nice shades. Same with the car, officianados only ;)

It'll be through these guys most likely, could buy a kit myself but no space to build and no talent! They offer full build from a Realm Engineering kit and an improved spec and higher quality finish, also the intriguing possibility of an aluminum body... They exhibit their XJ-13 at Goodwood every year so I know where they are and intend to get some of the questions asked before then over the phone. Jag running gear, bespoke chassis, period registration. Nice...

very nice Lewis, I am with you on the historic car racing, have been going to the silverstone classic for the last 12 years and it is the highlight of my year, done the revival about five years ago and then had a baby, now she is 4 years old I will be at the revival next year again can't wait....at that rate you are buying cars will will need a museum soon to store them.

GRP.........hhhmmmm........am out of my league and depth here Lewis.......it would have to be aluminium...ergo a more realistic plus higher quality, ie intrinisc value /workmanship rather than a moulder and grinder affair....

No option of a bastardised OEM/period engine as opposed to plain new one?

I have a long history with GRP cars, TVR then Marcos and Lotus. I don't mind it, but there would be a certain cachet with having a hand formed ally body. I would imagine it will be priced to match though...

Engines are always Jaguar straight sixes as per the original - that engine stayed in production nearly 50 years!! Original engine was a racing 3.4, likely for me is a 4.2 from an XJ6 made up with triple Webers. Torquey and still makes the right sound, but easier power and better technology from the later castings and pistons etc. Modern fuel, oil and water pumps, alternator etc but all period in appearance.

All sounds good, but for pure authenticity.....aluminium...may seen dear at time, but bound to more sought after if you ever sold it, plus....just so right for that car.

Don't worry Lewis, I will spend your money wisely for you....;)...;)

That would be my justification Frank - would be a very special car with an ally body. Need to do my research and ask some questions. If a an ally car comes in at £100k it isn't going to happen :)
