Rain sensor / wipers question

I seem to have discovered my first real Italianism but not sure if this is normal or just mine - The Rain sensor / sensitivity adjustment on the stork seems to have no effect. Annoying when I just want intermittent wipe on - they seem to not detect rain or go mad thinking its in a car wash when its just drizzle! Is this normal or does it need the dealer to look at it? All other cars I have had work ok - not 100% if the screen is a bit dirty but at least you can slow them down a bit or make them start by turning the knob.

Also with the cruise control as far as I can tell there is no cancel / coast option other than touching the brake or turning it right off and back on?

Agree with you 100%, my main two driving gripes on the GranTurismo. Took me a while to realise which way was which on the wiper adjustment and even then it is marginal. At least with other brands if you increase the sensitivity the wipers will immediately wipe once but not on a Maserati.

Not had a problem with the wipers in mine, but have never tried the cruise control.

Getting the wipers to work definitely seems to be a bit of a lottery. Fiddling with the sensitivity doesn't make much difference and you appear to need to switch them off and on again each start up for the automatic detection to work. There is no coast on the cruise - you need to touch the brakes to switch it off but it's the same as my Alfa was. Could it be the same system?!!

I suspect not - my Alfa 166 did a wipe when the intermittent delay was adjusted. Maybe a software update might do it?
Anyone out there still using a main dealer could ask them maybe.

re cruise - annoyingly the cruise symbol replaces the clock ? huh

I cannot read it at night, maybe my old eyes or the backlight makes the dial unreadable.

That is the ONLY clock that I can read with my eyes! But it is so lovely, especially in the dark....

As for the wipers: a total mystery. I have given up trying to understand how they may or may not work.

Wipers on intermittent is frustrating on the GT. I naively asked the dealer to repair them under warranty and they politely told me they were functioning normally...

It would have been better to have normal non rain sensing wipers rather than ones that don't work. Surely the sensors etc are all much the same on any car so must have been some special italian programming to make them useless! Lol

I suppose like a lot of a cars components, there are just a handful of manufacturers of these things. My experience is Jaguar XFR - awful, Maserati GTS - bad but works okay sometimes, Ford Ranger pickup - pretty good, Lexus ISF - brilliant.
I'd expect Ford to use a fairly cheap sensor and Jaguar, Maserati to use one at least no worse so that must put it down to software as AndyW says.
