Email came out this afternoon from the Maserati Owners Club, first three to reply gets to drive the Trofeo Ghibli/Lavante and MC20 with HR Owen Stockport in a couple of weekends time.
I was fast enough on the draw!
I hope it is not too cold so the tyres can cope, always an issue at this time of year. Is this a red trouser event because if so I can dig mine out and join you for the ride?

Congratulations on being quick. Although there is a debate at the Maserati Club (and in other organisations) about whether an entry period followed by a ballot might be a fairer system that just rewarding whoever happens to see and respond to the message fastest.

The MCC, weirdly, did a ballot for members' stand tickets (which went quite well) and then a mad scramble for priority public stand tickets (which was a sh1tshow).

They can’t really do that when they have set the criteria and @mjheathcote was fastest finger first. If anyone wants to drive an MC20, there’s 15 for sale in the U.K. Nobody could be expected to spend £250k on a used car without driving it first surely.

Careful when you go through Hyde though, there's a partially hidden speed camera. Fortunately, prior to the day I went through it at 50mph somebody had kindly set fire to it so I was reprieved!

Yes, they came up with that as the plan, so then should go with it. (and congrats (again) to the winners). But many other Club events are oversubscribed, and there is some (fairly heated) discussion between the 'I was fastest, so I should get it' people and the 'advertise it for a bit, and then give everyone who is interested an equal chance' people. I lean toward the latter group.

[EDIT: belatedly fixed typos]

I do too, but not changing the laws after they’ve been set, like rugby TMO’s

One of the reasons I get frustrated with a number of events that take place (Not sighting any particular club or event), there are those who are given pre-warning of the dates so are on the list before its even advertised and hotels that have rolling bookings by certain groups which results in you never getting the opportunity to stay close or in a nice hotel rather than a travel lodge 30 miles away.
