QPV: What yearly maintenance/servicing costs should I be anticipating?

Hi guys,

I hope your collective experiences will be able to advise here. I'm currently working out whether the total cost of QP ownership (14-18k range) will be comfortably affordable for me.

I am ok with the three year financing deals I can get with a 50% deposit with a balloon, and tax/insurance seems fairly reasonable. The only grey area is how much it will cost me to maintain and service it on an ongoing basis. I can't imagine I'll do more than 5k miles in it annually, and if something terrible happens that's a huge expense it might have to be laid up for a period while I gather funds for repair. My LR will likely remain my daily.

I hope that's enough info to go on, can anyone give me a ballpark figure? Thanks chaps you have been so helpful.

I happily wandered around the mas stand at the Blenheim palace battle proms last night so I'm dreaming again this morning ;).

You're talking PQV, right?

I'd say £3k per year should see you easily. Certainly my 4200 was within that figure and I did rather more miles.

I have had my QPV into 3 years now (and still in love)
1st year £1200
2nd year £3700
3rd year - so far £1300
Compared to my old Kangoo £2400

I tried to include everything from petrol to battery charger and made best estimates for my circs

Please think carefully about the costs on a low price QP. They are not cheep to run and at the age/price point you are thinking there could be some big bills.

Go in with eyes open to a big bill and you may be pleasantly surprised if it does not... but the other way round will spoil the whole experience.

Buy the best you can with a good warranty from a known specialist and you should be fine, but remember warranty will not cover wear items like a £2.5k clutch or engine mounts etc.

Good luck.

For basic stuff, say £1k per year. But over 3 years and 15k miles you'll need new tyres at £1k. Maybe brake discs/pads £2k and/or clutch at £2.5k. Depends on whether these have been done or not just prior to your purchase. But obviously, a car which has just had this work done will cost more than one on which the work is pending.

Fully agree with all that's been said so far, except a set of disks/pads for a 4.2 QP won't have to run to 2k - can easily be done for more like £600.

Just had mine for its annual at Shiltech - £450. That said, people here know I've spent a lot of money making it perfect over the last few years, and some of the parts don't come cheap. I didn't buy a cheap one to fix up either, it was one of the best available and one of the best Shiltech had seen.

Realistically, you will need to budget for a minimum of £1500 per year, remembering that what you don't have to spend in any one year will need to be carried over into the next, as eventually you will need to spend it!

Excellent advice thanks folks, I'm still very early in the research stage so all this is is extremely valuable. My impression was that you could get one with good provenance in my budget, but perhaps that isn't correct? I'm well aware that costs will vary from year to year and there may be some very expensive surprises. This is why I'm so keen to be sure of what I'm getting into. If it isn't realistic for me at this point then I'm in no rush. My business is growing very well and I still have the majority of my career ahead of me - there is plenty of time to do it right and enjoy the smiles having done it properly.

I'm in the process of buying our first house at the moment so that's the big focus right now. I won't be even thinking about purchasing until well into next year and that's only if my fortunes continue as they've been lately. It's good to have a fun goal, but it has to be attainable and that's what I'm working out.

Thanks again chaps :).

Cost of new discs and pads fitted on Grancabrio

Is that a question?

Unfortunately, they are silly money. There are no pattern alternatives, save for the FD versions, but they aren't really any different in price to the OEM version.

Indeed we did Andy! I've been somewhat distracted since then (for very happy reasons thankfully) and it's only because of the Maseratis at Bleinheim yesterday that I got thinking about it again. Will drop you a PM.

Will.
