QP Duo Select - Is gearbox whine normal?

My 'new' Duo Select whines in first and particularly in second. I don't hear it in the higher gears because road noise takes over so I don't know whether it's present or not.

It's definitely gear whine and not differential whine as it changes with the gear selected.

I presume they are straight cut gears and some whine is normal. Or are other people's Duo Selects silent in this department?

Your car felt spot on when I drove as well as when you did so very much doubt it's anything abnormal but I'll check with Autoshield tomorrow morning and get back to you.

Thanks Richard, I'll be interested to hear what Marios thinks.

It was definitely there when we pulled away from your house but once the car is on the move it's inaudible, so I thought no more about it. I raise the question now because in London I'm frequently crawling along in 1st and 2nd where it is clearly audible. I'll see if I can make a YouTube clip of it.

I'm trying to think back to the other Duo Selects I tested and I seem to remember some had and others hadn't got it. I'm hoping it's a case of "oh they all do that sir" rather than something more sinister.

He has put my mind at ease telling me the gears are straight cut so obviously there will always be some gear noise with straight cut gears. We've arranged to meet for a coffee next time he is in London.

You can always try changing the 75w90 gearbox oil to see if it helps.

You have clearly not driven a car with a straight cut box, or your gear whine is er - excessive. A straight cut box is very loud and whines like a banshee.
