Hi All,

Having problems getting my 4200GT into gear, when starting from cold it's taking a few minutes to get into gear and until it's warm 5-10 mins later it's a real problem.

I fear I might have a gear box or clutch problem looming but thought I'd check with those in the know first.

Cheers

CC or manual? Checked the linkage, cable, gearbox fluid levels? Is the clutch slipping?

Hi, wow quick.

It's manual and no haven't checked anything as yet and may not be able to myself. Just looking to make sure I ask for some other options to be checked before someone talks of replacing anything.

....going on previous problems reported and then commented on it could be the cables needing adjusted, when were they last adjusted?

Loz or Matt will pass by and give a more definitive answer.

The car is a 95 and I've had it a year, I had it serviced once but to my knowledge they wouldn't have looked at the cables.

Being a bit of a novice here, Loz and Matt, who am I looking out for forum name wise.

Cheers for all your help

You mean an 05 Stephen? How many miles on it, got a service history or know whose serviced it regularly?

Two of our regular stalwarts.......but some of the other guys might know, you will get an answer...don't worry.

Stephen, Loz is Loz and Matt is Conaero. They are very clued as to what makes these cars tick and there are lots of other guys kicking around the forum that have probably experienced your woes firsthand. Good luck, but it does sound like cable adjustment.

It's definitely the linkage, as to whether it can be adjusted or needs replacing, someone needs to get under the car. How many miles?

Mine was adjusted more and more frequently from around 65k miles until it needed redoing, I had linkage and cables done in the end before selling. I think it did the trick! Make sure you double declutch while the car is cold, it'll help you. I also find that goIng through the box before starting out helps get the oil moving.

Good luck and get to an indie soon!
