Hiya,

A mate of mine is coming down for a visit this weekend and so we're doing the obligitory visit to Meridian seeing as it's just up the road. Since having a go in my car my mate has got the bug for a Maser and has been having a look on line. Whilst I know a bit about GT's now I know very little about the other models.

We're going to have a look at thiis car:

Could you tell me the pros and cons of this particular model so I'm a little more informed?

He was saying that he wouldn't expect it to be as quick as my GT-S, but I said that it's lighter and so probably not far off - would this be right? I certainly remember being left behind by a couple of them on a run to Rockingham in my 4.2GT!

He also wasn't sure on the sound of it, but i told him that a larini would soon sort that out - again, is this true? How do they sound as standard?

Thanks in advance chaps, never know there may soon be another one in the ranks....!

The GS is the last in the line of 4200's...It was a more focused 4200 with a bit more power 10bhp I believe, better suspension set up for spirited driving, CC gearbox was quicker, lovely body kit, more supportive seats and lots of carbon fibre...Oh and those stunning GS wheels. If he likes the 4200 then the GS is the one. When the GT come out some GS owners found it wanting in performance as it wasn't a step on from the GS...The GS is was easier to hustle around bends and I could well imagine it would keep up if no pull away from a GT...

The car he is interested in has been there for a far while and was originally up for a fare bit more....Do not pay the asking price on that one as I'm sure there is a deal to be done...Being a Meridien car as well you get that all imortant warrenty so not mush to worry about in that department.

Personaly after driving a few GS and a GT I wouldn't pick a 4.2 GT over a GS. I like the CC gearbox which you can not get in the GT 4.2....But the GT S then thats a different story.

As far as the sound...Any Maserati sounds pretty good standard but if that is not enough a Larini is the way to go...I have heard Matts GS and it's stunning.

I've heard there's a nice copper one up for sale too! ;-)

A tuned GS is definitely a quick beast, I'd say mine was good for 0-60 in 4.5 secs with the tweaked gear shifts, drive by wire mod, extra torque from the ECU module and better breathing exhaust.

The GranSport is really the culmination of 8 years of coupe design. Don't be fooled by the 2007 and even the odd 2009 registrations, the last ones came off the production line in 2006.

This is the best 'in a nutshell' summary of the GranSport:

Dan, if your pal gets one and wants to tweak it to add beef, drop me a pm.

Ummm...now I would like to see a GS with vents...That was one of the bits I liked on my 3200 over the 4200...Along with the lights of course.
