Hi all,

Well here goes, I Am looking to stimulate discussion on a proposed road trip, I have no idea on the road trip as never done one before, armed with cash for petrol, time to drive it and a few places to visit on route, I came up with the below route. I am aiming to leave in 2weeks and my route will take me from portsmouth on a ferry around to Santadar or Bilbao in Spain, i MUST visit Monaco, Milan and a few Swiss and Italian passes.

If anyone can suggest places on route tO stay/visit hat would be grand. I am taking my father with me who is a young 69 and we intend to hit sport mode, windows down and listen to variety of music whilst in the evenings having anything from monster munch sandwiches to fine wine and dining. I've even considered putting a popup tent in the boot as those things are amazing. :thumb:

I am not set on this route, it only took a few hours to come up with it so feel free to suggest the passes to visit and in what order etc. Or even any good camp sites or b&bs. I don't plan on pre booking. (scary)

So what's your thoughts on the route?
What do I need to legally carry in these countries
How do I get a toll swipe card and do I need one for every country
Is there anything else I should know?

Really haven't done enough research thinking I had lots of time but this trip has crept up on me.
Thanking you in advance for reading let alone replying.

Lot of miles there Ian.......Basque country is wonderfully hilly, been a while since I was there.

I would safely say any D/N route through the South of France will be wonderfully involving.....you can sign up to the SANEF thingie as we did to ease toll payments through France if you go autorouting

Pyrenees will be fab......go via Andorra for a distraction

Do the lakes in Northern Italy, go to Modena if you can further down....the Italians will love you for turning up in one of their pride and joy marques

I hope the Italians will respect my car and not try to bash or scrape it. :shy2:

I am actually going to visit Rome but was thinking of flying down there to give me a rest day or two from driving leaving the car parked somewhere in Milan. (hint at Bigfoot) it works out about 2200 miles which can be shortened so not too bad, I do this driving to my offices every month from my home.

You could be right but then to shorten the trip I might regret it. What's at Andorra to see? I'll have a good google in a bit.

Thanks for the reply.

I know they just introduced a high speed train from Rome to Naples.......not sure about Milan....but rail travel can be pretty good rather than flying

Well........I just drove to it to say i was there.....lol...Andorra that is

Right because I am driving in Spain and France, I need:

An alcohol breath tester
2 warning triangles
2 CE hi vis vest in glove box
First aid kit
2kg fire extinguisher
Spare bulb kit
Paper and card driving licence
Vehicle log book hidden incase, however I can say the car isn't mine if necessary ;)
My insurance documents
EU reg plates or GB sticker/magnet
Torch

Blimey, now there is a few items, that's the boot full, so glad I asked.

Yes I'd agree with that, though you could join it further down from grenoble if routing allows, as it takes a while to get really interesting.
