Paraflu 11

Hi

When at Auto Italia at Stanford Hall, I bought some Paraflu 11 to do interim top ups on the 3200.

I paid around £6 to £7 I think for a litre, but cannot remember the company there selling it.
They were selling only Paraflu and Selenia products if my memory serves me right.

No one locally stocks this so trying to find either a good source or the contact of the company that had
the stand at Stanford Hall? Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

Shop 4 parts do the Blue antifreeze, when you search on thier web site search under Alfa Romeo 164, fluids and Lubricants, antifreeze and it will bring up the blue.

I bought blue Paraflu from an Alfa dealer, so I assume your local one should be able to get it for you.

I went to my local Alfa dealer the other day.

They only had Paraflu UP and they wanted about £16.95 a litre!!!!!

Think E Bay may be the best source at this point....

Piccadilly motors (alfa dealer) in Knaresborough had paraflu 11 in stock at £6 last time I checked with them. I expect if you phone a few alfa dealers one will have it in stock

Hi together

maybe someone can help me to find the answer why Paraflu 11 is the recomended antifreeze for the 3200 Maserati ? and not the Paraflu UP which is intended for " for the cooling systems that contain innovative light alloy materials" .
Is it because the principle of the corrosion protection with O.A.T was just not available when the 3200 came out (but would be chosen nowadays).?

Not to mix them is clear...

Im a believer in "its marketing" rubbish to sell a brand only available through dealers and is more expensive than anything else

Others will say use what they say as that way you wont blame yourself if anything goes wrong

I by the way, use manufacturers oil and anti freeze

Arnold Clark Fiat/Alfa garage gave me a 10% discount card - not much but its something and if you need any other items like oil then it might make it a bit cheaper than buying elsewhere

Any modern antifreeze designed for aluminium engines (silicate free, OAT organic acid technology based) will be fine in your 3200 - AS LONG AS YOU FLUSH OUT THE PARAFLU. Despite what Maserati may wish you to believe, 3200 engines are made of nothing more exotic than aluminium.

A hosepipe up the pipe into the water manifold is the easiest way to flush it all out.

Mine is full of this and is absolutely fine. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_160508_langId_-1_categoryId_255224

Yes, modern 'Red' OAT antifreeze is fine for most cars. Its a myth, you need to use just one type. Halfords stuff is excellent. Another cheao source, is Euro carparts. About £16 for a 5 litres.

Paul, You only need to open it up in one place to flush it out. Pulling off all the hoses will leave residual coolant in the system, unless you then flush out each section - that'll take much longer.

Sealing up the engine where the hose enters is an even better way, even if its only wrapping and holding a rag around the entry point.

The other thing is that Blue Antifreeze is not silicate free. It is silicate (IAT) based coolant which is used in engines with iron blocks, as the silicate has excellent corrosion protection properties.

Alloy engines don't go rusty, so you can use OAT. The advantage of OAT is that it lasts at least 5 years instead of only 2 for the blue stuff.
