Outside Temperature Reading °F to °C on 3200

Hi Everyone,

Its been a while since I've been on here or even looked at my 3200, but I'm back now!!

I want to change the outside temperature reading on my 3200 from °F to °C
The reading is on the small digital display on the instrument cluster.

Weirdly enough the engine temperature gauge is in °C

Does anyone know if there is a setting to change this?
If not which computer/module is giving the value in °F?

I recently changed my Air-Con controller as my old one was faulty but it didn't affect it.

Many thanks,

that's a very interesting question- I'm gagging to know if that's possible...

Hey- did you really have a 33 P4??! Got any footage of it??

Mine is slightly different (might be an earlier car) - it has degrees F for engine temp and outside temp. It would be really nice to have the outside temp in degrees C.

Reading the manual it does suggest that depending on where the car was sold depended on if it read C or F. I would think it is possible - ill have a look at the service manual this evening and see if it mentions anything.

I would think that this could be something like a link change somewhere, they would not make such as 2 seperate ecu's for different markets. Mine is a UK car and I think it's in C.

I don't have any video but here are some pics.
It was such a great car, it suffered from the usual old Alfa Romeo issues but it stuck to the road like glue and went like a rocket!!

On the outside temperature issue, this is what I've investigated so far.

- The car originally had the engine temp and outside temp in °F, however I changed the dash for one with the engine temp in °C. Unfortunately the outside temp didn't change.
- I have replaced my aircon computer (the actual aircon controls) and this had no effect.
- I found something semi useful in the service manual, see pin 14 of connector 3 on the image below (Page 11 of aircon manual).

hodroyd, if checked my wiring to see what I have on this pin do you think you could do the same?

I would sag that is just a generic input for the outside temp sensor
- there appear to be three others two in the ducts for the AC and another for the cabin?

Yeah sorry Robert, I meant pin 13 on connector C.

It looks like connector A pin 4 is the signal input from the sensor, and i'm guess/hoping that Connector C Pin 13 is a input to set the temperature output in °C or °F.
I'll try and check my car's wiring and voltage on that pin too.

Cheers,

in italien language the connector C13 is named "Conversione C/F" so I would assume it serves to switch between the two modes. However on the wiring diagram the cable is left open in the Connector of the dashboardcabel to air con cable....

On the other hand in the wiring diagramms in the electrical sections (not in the air con section) indicate C 12 as line for the C/F switching....(also not connected). 13 is to diagnostic connector for air con.

Maybe its settable with SD2 but the switching by "switch" is actually not used but would work (if one would know which levels are needed , (to ground, to +5V, to +12 V? max current, needed current)

Hey the_raul & mjheathcoate!

(sorry, by 'footage' I meant pictures!)

that's amazing!

I'd drive those now! What lovely pieces of gear...

Thanks for posting those...

It might just be the type of sensor that you fit that governs the readout, worth a look at the connector though, even though it does not seem to offer a choice of such as pin 13 / 14 for F & C, if you know what I mean..??

Had the same problem , it seems to be set in the BRIDGE CAN unit.
I swapped the bridge can unit on a 4200 with identical part number and it changed from C to F !
So it suggests this can be switched via software .....................but how is the mystery !

Ah, same thing I've noticed on the GS.. but no simple answer it seems. I'm just old enough to remember 10s notes and 3p bits but degrees F mean nothing to me.20151019_201455.jpg
