There have been many discussions about this and I myself was concerned that as soon as the engine revved aboved idle the oil pressure guage went off the scale!
Apperantly I have it on good (Forum) authority that 5 bar is normalfor cold engines and above idle, and I cant remember what the value is but anything right of centre on the needle is okay for warm engines on tickover

Many thanks, i have been told that it is normal...being a novice thought i'd ask somebody with a little more experience.

I have been also told on good authority that the oil pressure normally runs up to 8 bar but its not show as not to worry people.

Hi Mark,
5 Bar is normal when starting up cold and for running, hot tickover it may drop to 4 bar, that's normal.

Cheers

The gauges are just a rule of thumb and can be considered roughly accurate, like any car gauge. If the level is max then you can't go wrong unless the thing jams on max of course.

Unless its the speedometer, rev counter or temp guage!!!
Fuel gauge never stays on max for long

3 times in 18 months - once when I bought it from South Wales to Surrey, Second time return to South Wales for a mates wedding and third, about 2 weeks ago when I thought I had 10p off a litre but not at a Tesco Express garage - but didnt!

I think the cost has gone up from about £80 to well over £100

Oil wells are are a bit hard to find in Surrey - there is one in Sussex mind you.
I do use it more than that of course - every week pretty much (does the same journey), its just that I never fill it up - thus convincing myself that I go further than I actually, do therefore the car does more than 16mpg and why waste fuel carrying around 50litres (50kg) of excess weight.
By using different petrol stations each time exposes the car to more envious glances - so I try and avoid putting in £10 worth

Just done Scotland in the XJR, one tank got me to the outskirts of Glasgow, mind you I was hitting 140 on the way up due to delays, then filled up again to come back, now just filled up again to have ready for next time, slurp, slurp.
