I decided this check engine light wouldn’t beat me. We have just done the two knock sensors, replaced lots of vacuum pipes under the plenium, replaced the Kieser valve, changed the water channel pipes for silicone ones and treated the car to a nice new starter motor while in there. Ran out of time tonight but it’s back together. Just need to connect the fuel rails back up and fill the coolant.

And you did that because...?

(Check the most appropriate answer
a) had too much money in my pocket
b) too much time on my hands and disnt know what to do with myself,
c) have uncontrollable OCD tendencies or
d) wife wanted me to empty the dishwasher and I had to come w a legit excuse that I had something more important to do)

In all seriousness were there any early signs this needed attention?

I was getting knock sensor fault codes when I connected the car to diagnostics after a major water leak. I suspect coolant leak caused the issue.

I did the same with my car, a whole load of pre-emptive maintenance, with these cars its not if these things will fail its when. looks good and if it makes you feel any better i did this pile of owrk to my car probably 8 or 9 years ago now and i have not had to remove the plenum again since its all been good, so its worth it!!
