Hello Everyone,

After a month or two of ‘lurking' and reading the positive contributions of many here, I've taken the plunge and joined in preparation for buying a Maserati 4200.

I am about to begin the search for a Coupe with a manual gearbox to be my daily driver.

It's now more than 10 years since I last drove a 4200 (only tried Spyder's - which I loved). I'm definitely after a manual Coupe as I need 4 seats, and have never been enamoured of cars with automated manuals / paddle shift. It's a purely personal preference and no reflection on the merits of the Cambiocorsa transmission.

So I'd be very interested (and would highly appreciate it) to hear any experiences of running a 4200 as a daily driver, ‘warts and all'! :)

For the rest of my questions I'll pester the 3200/4200/GS Tech forum.

Cheers

welcome to the forum!
the 42s are good cars, and well sorted examples will serve you well (as a 32 owner........ does that stick in my craw?:saifi3:) tbh, I would not run a maser as a sole daily driver but I know others would and do.........I'm just not convinced they cope well with the salt etc of the winters here and using them sparingly imo makes the drive even more of an event and special.......but that might be just me.

4200 should be fine as a daily. Just buy carefully and get an inspection done on any prospective purchase.

I drove mine as a daily driver in London for about two years and she didn't miss a beat. Until, that is, the clutch let go on the Brent Cross flyover. Which was interesting. Truth be told, I'd had a warning earlier in the week when the car popped out of reverse at low revs a couple of times.

Anyhow, I would suggest that if you buy a CC, rather than a manual and you drive mostly in town, then you should keep the car in "Sport" and disengage gear when waiting at the lights.

Oh and have fun!

Thanks for the tips! The clutch episode must have been a bit exciting! :scared3:

Cheers, although choosing someone to do the inspection might be a challenge here (Southern Germany) as I've yet to research a decent shop / mechanic for a PPI. Will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the feedback, the salt issue on winter roads was a potential issue in my mind where I live. It will have to be my D.D. though, and I hope the novelty won't wear off too quickly.

Everyday! Then I hope to follow your lead. I gather it's been mainly positive thus far?

Have emailed Eberhard from the German forum to ask him to point you in the right direction. The German lads are gathering near Tübingen on the way to Modena btw.
