Welcome to the forum.

The GS is a fine choice, hopefully you'll decide it's for you and get one bought.

Others have come asking about GSs so have a read around. In brief, they're the last version of the 42 and are a sportier version, not available in manual. The gearbox is a bit marmite and not anywhere near as good as the more modern paddle shift. If a stop-start daily commute is it's primary role, probably not an ideal car.

Having said that, they're incredibly usable and surprisingly practical. I've had mine 3 and a half years and while it's not cheap to maintain, it's been as reliable or more so than pretty much every car I've owned.

There's not lots of choice on specs, and in reality your choice will be governed by what's for sale at the time (dependant on how patient you are) as there are rarely more than 8-10 cars for sale at any time. An MC Victory (rare!) is a GS with knobs on.

And the golden rule - always get the car inspected.

like many in here, I could bleat on about the GS for a long time. Have a read, have a drive and come back with questions if it looks like the car for you. There's some superb knowledge in here and, amazingly, it's generally free (might cost a beer at a meet).

Cheers
Woody

Thanks Woody, I used to own a e46 M3 with SMG2 - people used to complain its very clunky but I loved it - does anyone know how the GS box compares?

Welcome kman.
Love your work (photos). If i was in your neck of the woods I would get you to photograph my car.
Perhaps you can give us some photography tips :)

Thanks, more than happy to help!

hmm...it's been a while but I moved from a very late E46 M3 SMG, and in all honest, I think that overall the BMW box was better. That's not to say the CC isn't any good, it has it's positives.

Welcome, some lovely photos, never understand why mine don't turn out like that.

This is the best place for honest advice on Masers, not the usual rose colour tinted version you get on most forums. Masers are great cars but not without the issues, the trick is to go into the deal with your eyes open and if you do you will love the experience.

Hi Khalid

Good to meet you last night.

Your photos are superb - I sometimes visit family in Bedfordshire so may tap you up for a couple of pro quality shots of my jalopy one day. The shots in the lake district are beautiful! :approve:

Is that a Ghibli I see hidden behind Herbert? If I'd known that Ghiblis went to the Ace I could have bought the Cup!

Arfa also took it to LeMans and back last year. I had a ride in it and have to say it was lovely as were all the forum cars there.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will be asking - firstly is there a buyers guide thread for the GS? Or will it be the same as the 4200?

BennyD - I'm from Bedfordshire.

Snap - around LB area - you?
