I have placed a deposit for this mc shift with viewing on Monday. Now i know it's not a low mileage but my budget is just over 40k and they offer 3 month warranty! So far i know the car needs a service which they have offered to do it before collection.I have also request a clutch reading and brakes inspection which they agreed to do so!They said that if the brakes are more than 50% worn they will replace it.What else should i be looking before making the final decision?Should i service the car at Maserati? How much will cost to replace the clutch ?I know the brakes are around 4.000£:battered:
Btw this will be my first Maserati so i'm like a new kid getting a new toy
ps. what do you think about the interior?Never seen on in this colour..will be easy to resell?

Welcome to the forums. That car is being discussed in another thread on this forum :)

http://www.sportsmaserati.com/showthread.php/16326-GT-S-42k

Have a search lots of advice and questions been answered before..

http://www.sportsmaserati.com/showthread.php/16033-Granturismo-S-purchase-query-service-history

Nice car but never seen one in that interior colour so guess that is reflected in price. Im not a fan but it's better than bright red IMHO :)

If they are paying for the service I would insist on Maserati main dealer only. A clutch is £2500 at an independant and around £3200 at a main dealer.

If you are on a tight budget though I would tread very carefully as these cars do need TLC and any skimping would only result in further costs. Think about taking out a warranty with Warranty Direct or Warrantywise would be circa £1800 but worth every penny as you will be stress free and not worried about costs as all will be covered.

Finally enjoy her these are easily the best sounding cars on the planet :)

Have to agree with the advice and costings.
On test drive listen for any suspension knocks or unusual sounds.
Be aware that a clutch wear reading of over 50% MAY need a change soon depending on driving style.
And you definitely need the warranty, this is a must.
Above all these cars are great and a smile a minute.

I know the dealer well - they are good guys. Bought a R8 from David Maundrell a while ago and kept in touch. Decent people to deal with..

David is a great guy to deal with and the car is in really great condition on the outside! On the inside it does have few marks but they said it's all getting done before the collection. The car is due for the major service. It's free if you choose to service with them or at your own cost at the maserati dealer altough they said will cover some of the cost but you still probably looking to pay 2k at maserati dealer.Having fmsh probably the best would be to have it serviced at maserati! We also went for a test drive and the car drives just fine..not to mention the sound!!I have decided to wait for them to get the interior done and send me some pics with the final results and also decided to let the car on sale as i don't wanna be the time waster guy.Would you service the car with them or at maserati?

Big service at Maserati all day long. Why don't you compromise and ask for it to be serviced at an independant Maserati garage of your choice (like Giallo?).

This way there is no conflict of interest so you can be rest assured that no corners are cut. Them insisting on servicing it themselves is a bit cheeky as they can do what they want and cut corners if needed. I smell a rat here. The car was traded in just before a big service was needed so it's certain the previous owner knew big £££s are soon needed. Have you checked the service book? If it has a full MSH then to preserve value I would take it to a main dealer.

Whats needed in the interior? Are there rips etc?

The car is priced at £43,000 lets say it needs a £2500 service and an £1800 warranty that brings a retail value of £47kish taking in to consideration the interior colour the car in my opinion is overpriced when compared to stock from say Nuvola London where none of the cars need a service and come with a warrantywise warranty..food for thought.

The car is priced cheaper as they know it needs ££ spending.

Yes there are few rips on the leather between the back seats and it's quite visible also the R and 1 button are worn.Maybe for someone with a bigger budget than mine will be a good buy but just like you're saying this car will take you to at least 46k easily. If i would have 46k i'll probably stretch to get the white one from autotrader priced at 49k with just 23k miles.

As it will be my first maser i would want to have a good experience and not a disaster one.I will get back to them in few days to see if at least they know the clutch wear..

Even with a 2k service this is still a good value car and if they pay part of gthe service at Maserati thats what I think I would do as even if it costs a K more for yourself still a good deal and atill the cheapest 4.7 MC shift around.....Next MC Shift is a private sale at over 45k.....If you want a 4.7 MC Shift at this price range then I wouldn't let it slip away as it may be a while before another one comes along.....You need 45k plus to get into one......and most are 49k plus.

But make sure they sort the leather our ..... Not sure what it would cost if you did it yourself but probably £100's rather than 1000's...
