Need a new exhaust... so many choices!

Apologies for a non Maserati thread.

My R53 Mini Cooper S currently sounds as though I’m 17 again and have drilled a hole in the rear tailpipe. This is because the pipe that feeds into my left side rear silencer has snapped off at the join and is completely disconnected.

One option is just buy either a new or 2nd hand replacement left silencer and twin pipes, which are available on fleabay for as little as £80....

The other more intriguing option is to put a performance exhaust on it, and to make it sound a bit throatier. Seems like the most popular choice is a Milltek, but I need to do some research... anyone on here done something similar?

Yes, I had a Jetex system on my R53. It sounded lovely, but quieter than the Miltek. The Jetex is the system BBR use on their conversions.

Fletcher do a cheaper copy of the Miltek and can be had on eBay but is even louder again. The Janspeed is obnoxious and I would avoid. Piper do a system that is based on the John Cooper Motorsport system that the race series use which is also said be quite nice.

Any questions let me know

Thanks Chris - have looked them up and looks interesting. Did you just do from the Cat backwards?…

I did both at different stages. I did ultimately have the Janspeed manifold with 200 cell cat, which was needed due to the increase in power elsewhere. If you are stock or mild state of tune I would stick with cat back only

Well - research completed and purchase just made. Shortly my Cooper S will have one of these.

Will be interesting to see how much of a difference it makes to stock. YouTube videos suggest quite a bit....

Wow. GTT are just up the road from me and I'd never heard of them, even though until about 3 years ago we had a Mini. Seems like I missed a trick there.

Nope - will be fitted by BMS Surrey, who are the Mini Specialist who look after my Mini. One of the technicians there has a Cooper S with the same exhaust and it was his recommendation that sealed my decision
