Might be selling the GS...

JonW - I bought the FD DBW upgrade and got Autofficina to fit it for me. I had the same on my previous 4200 and it's really worthwhile (though also quite expensive in my view).

Mark - I used to run my old 4200 as a daily driver a few years ago and loved that. This one just seems a little too much like hard work to drive it when I'm only doing a few miles and mostly in traffic, so it never lasts long as the daily and gets put back in the garage to make space. And much as I keep planning to "go out for a drive" when it's parked up in a garage a mile from my house, all clean and tucked away with it's battery conditioner and cover over it, it's quite an effort to just do it. So much as I love it, and love driving it, it's the obvious one to let go.
Evening all,

I have a chance to buy a new car I've always wanted, but I have to make space, so would need to sell my GranSport to do it. I'm in two minds, but would value opinions on the value and saleability of the GS. I'm aware they're not quick to sell at the moment, not rising in value, and of course the whole market is depressed by circumstances too - so all in all not the best time to sell - but anyway!

Now I need to try to remember the important points about it...

2007 GranSport - silver with beige leather (sorry I never learned the Italian colours!)
FD DBW fitted
Forum X-pipe fitted
I had all the interior carpets replaced with OEM (they were beige and tired so I changed to black and brand new) when I first got it, which was the best part of £1300!
Serviced by Autofficina since 2013, with the last major service just 4 months ago.
I've owned it for about 5 years and have done the sum total of 2,000 miles in that time, bringing it up to just 24,600

It is in superb condition - basically spotless - it's been kept in a garage under cover when not used, and is about as close to new-looking as I think you'd get - other than a couple of the dash buttons starting to get sticky and some very slight wear to the drivers bolster.

I'm not in a desperate hurry to sell it, so can leave it with a dealer for a few months waiting for the right buyer.

So - any thoughts on pricing and time to sell given the above? And of course, anyone know anyone in the market? I'd be happy to take a deposit and wait until lockdown ends before completing and handing over, on the assumption (hope!) that it's not going to be more than a month or two before we're allowed to do a little more than we are today.

Cheers,
Ben.

Hi Ben,
I owned a GS several years ago. Now have a Aston AMR and Alfa Quadrifoglio but my wife would like another GS so would be interested in your car. What is the full service history and clutch reading and how many previous owners.

that’s interesting to hear - if Autofficina recommend switching it back to stock in order to sell the car, let me know.... I’m fairly local to Autofficina and they’ve done a few little bits on my GS....

Think I saw somewhere in the Netherlands recently with a DBW for sale. Quite pricey though for a used unit + when you take the re-programming & shipping to FD into account there wasn't much of saving over new. They turn up reasonably frequently on Maserati Life too.

I went to see a silver (or was it light grey) GS at Autoficina a few years back (their old shop) and loved it. But couldn't agree a reasonable px at the time against my F456GT. Subsequently sold my 456 privately and bought my QPV which is lovely and practical. But I think the GS is probably my favorite GT type of car south of £50k.

Interesting to see someone who went from 456 to QPV. I'm seriously thinking about going the opposite direction. (But I don't think I could run a 456 as a daily driver.)

Unless someone has a Daytona or an Iso Grifo they want to give me.

Oooh now you're talking! Looking forward to Le Mans (when ever that'll be!)

I expect any prospective buyer would want to hear more about the service and MOT history prior to your ownership and the clutch wear (despite the low mileage). I am not normally a fan of SOR but sounds like that might work best for you in your circumstances and you are in the right place on this forum. Looks a lovely car and would be on my viewing list if I were in the market for another GS.

Alpina - without wishing a thread drift, now you are talking. I have two, love the Alpina ethos though one of mine is slightly left field. (We probably should have a separate thread on Alpinas, sorry).

Is this the car that was for sale in East Kilbride? The red one?

Nice collection! I find them quite similar to be honest. Both were Montezemolo's ideas. The 456 was his vision for a user friendly ferrari and QP was the return of Maserati to luxo sedan. When i got the 456 in 2009 was about 14 years old and when i got the QPV in 2017 was also more that 10yr old. Both are trans-axle and largely handmade. 456 feels more retro and exotic but the QPV is a better daily runner in my opinion as it feels better built and cost a lot less to maintain.

@hashluck I remember that car. Nice looking thing.

I tried to buy an Alpina d5 Touring recently and during the negotiations with Sytner, they sold it to someone else without telling me. There were 9 UK cars so needle in a haystack. There is one other for sale but it's mileage is too high.

The moral of the story is, if you find the right Alpina, don't hesitate or it will go and you can't easily dig up another!

Exactly. I know a lot about the car having spoken with a previous owner before as well as at length with the current. One of only 35 UK Coupes and the only B3S in the world in Japan Red. You sometimes have to travel for the right car. The other Alpina is an E92 B3 GT3 and one of only 4 in the UK and 99 globally. A proper weapon and Alpina's take on an M3 GTS (which means it is nothing like it, just faster and yet at the same time more usable and comfortable :)

So now you own two of my favourite V8 00s cars. If we didn’t have lots of Alpina stuff planned I’d be already on the phone for a feature...

I'd just stick it back under the cover for the next few months unless you want to give it away..

Car sales are not good at the moment, no ones buying. Dicky might well do you a deal if the price is right, but don't forget he has to make a living!

Well nearly Nayf except neither of these Alpinas have a V8 - the B3S has a 3.3 n/a straight-six and the B3 GT3 a 3.0 Bi Turbo 6 (N54) - still both better than a E46 M3 or M3 GTS respectively though :)

You will be needing halbe's B10 when he gets it but good to hear you are already busy on the Alpina front. You can always still come down and have a play though and talking of B3s I assume JJ still wants to the Audi 90 quattro thing post lockdown?

Lovely car!!
I had a Alpina B10 V8s in my mid twenty whilst I was living in London. Nice car but at the time being young and living in London I didn't really make the most of it. Bought it cheap and sold it cheap. With the way prices have gone I regret selling it.

I also looked at an Alpina XD3. Great car but way more expensive than the Audi sonppyed for that instead but I really like the Alpina brand

My current daily is an XD3. Very impressive piece of kit.

Nope.
This 456 is just about within my budget to buy and run for 3 months:

She looks Stunning and I bet there's probably as much been spent on her as the value of the car.
Ran mine as a shared daily with the 4200 in 2012 before getting a 360 in 2013.
A Great car but they can drink some fuel but certainly enjoyable.
