Best of luck to them but the SUVs are more important. Even Merc is dropping S Class/E Class coupe/saloon so a new GranTurismo does not have a lot going for it. In that context a good looking mid-engined halo car actually makes sense for feeding the SUV brand image.

Personally for £130k+ I would buy a used McLaren for £90k and something else, maybe a petrol QP6 at £40k as I have really liked them whenever I have driven them.

Well, this is the correct route if Maserati can deliver.

My issue is though that they need the team in place to produce the super sports cars and engines. Yes they do have the tech facilities but will be going up against the best and need to deliver first attempt or they will shoot them selves in the foot.

C’mon Maserati, blow our minds again and deliver.
They need to poach staff from F**.......

Good they are dropping the Ghibli. Even being in that sector damages the brand. A junior SUV is a big mistake. Who wants to buy a brand that competes in the quashqai sector? A Range Rover competing full size suv I suppose is excusable and necessary. A CLS type coupe - saloon is actually a genius move as the new, sole 4 door.
But they need the sports car and the coupe first... Refresh people what the brands about. Then foist the SUV on the world

Bored now ... heard it all before.

For me Maserati must have a halo car in the MC20 but the problem is with the pricing. Whether we like it or not, Maserati does not have the kudos of Ferrari and Aston Martin so will not be able to sell a £200,000 car unless is it better in every respect (which of course is not going to happen).

Dropping down to Audi R8 and Porsche 911 territory and pricing at £130,000 ish would be more sensible if they want market share but still a tough ask .... and huge competition as both brands have created a reputation of being reliable enough to use as a daily driver.

Let's hope September brings some proper pictures, pricing and specs.
Is the R8 not being culled?

It's this:

Not white, not a whale, but it was great!

Did anyone get that concept art book? It’s still in stock on the Maserati lifestyle shop but it’s quite expensive for a car that doesn’t actually exist.* Have the feeling I’d feel mildly depressed every time I finished looking at it.

* If you discount the Ferrari Roma, that is.

Maserati were hoping to pick up 30-40% of its future sales fom Asia , mainly China with all the franchised dealers they set up out there but it didnt materialise , for the established European and US markets they need to look back at their sucesses and rekindle another Boorer and the likes, I honestly believe it was a big mistake going into the SUV market/ merging with Chrysler , mid range sports cars and GTees are their forte and where they have had previous successes, they have tried to expand and on reflection thats exactly where they have failed eveytime in the past ..............personally i think the attachment to Ferrari was a big plus ...........that was their niche market , I think they have realised this now and are in the process of evolving at new game plan hence the delays ............plus Italians arent exactly renowned for handling the finance side of things one only has to look at there economy fo the last 40-50 years nothing changes always hyper inflation, pehaps they would be better off getting in German financiers to head it up

It seems the German car manufacturing executive s are in demand.
JLR Rolls Royce, and now Aston Martin all have Germans at the top...

Proof is in the eating so fingers crossed, unfortunately I think the car manufacturers, and many other businesses, are going to have to go through a period or realignment where financial pressures will limit their ability to innovate

Agree, Maserati is late to a party that has already finished.
