I've had both and would go flappy every time. I was also a manual bloke til I had a cc. 90% or so of 4200's sold were flappy paddled. It's superb on an 04 onwards car but the change is slow on early cars and they won't take a software update like the later cars will, hence a slower and jerkier change than on later cars.

Hi,

Thanks for the response, so basically go for a +2004 if poss...not many around at the mo..

Is there any other revisions that are a consideration when budgeting a vehicle ?

Not to my knowledge, but I've not actually owned a Spyder, few and far between though as you say.

The 04my spiders have the updated gearbox, a much stiffer chassis and the glass back window. They can be identified by the 7 spoke wheels although the earlier rims were available and the aerial in the middle of the boot lid not on the back nearside rear wing. The later cars are generally held to be a better car than the earlier ones.

Thanks Dicky, just trying to be helpful. I went through the same process before I bought mine, and that won't be for sale any time soon! BTW, I'll be over at Autoshield on Wednesday as Marios is tweaking it a bit.

Hi GT, as above would always go flappy paddle in a 4200/Spider/GS......and as above again get a 2004 as they got better with age...

I've had both. Really enjoy the manual I have now but next time would go back to cc. Just easier to live with in traffic and as Dicky says the later ccs are better.

I'd love a Spyder but not many about 2005 or later As I wouldn't want anything older than I have now.
Anyway good luck with the search.

CC every time for me too Dave. Drove a manual and I wasn't that impressed; very notchy between 1st and 2nd and, although that was probably just an adjustment issue, it felt a bit heavy and lumpen.

Well, out of preference, I chose a manual gearbox for my 2003 4200 Spyder.....no regrets, no problems and very nice to drive. BTW my car has a glass back window!

Good to hear you are pleased with it. Cc or manual its still a Masser and that's what matters!
