Manual gearchange gater

Trivial stuff but........in the passenger side of the gearchange gater there appears to be a black "stiffener" which I will attempt to remove very soon - however I'm suspicious that it may be part of the tracker sensor which is fitted. I've looked at several pictures of interiors (Autotrader) and some have a nicely folded gaiter which sits around the lever but others have a similar nearside bulge and in the description say they fitted with a tracker. Any clues ?

I've delayed removing the gater as the centre console needs to come out...I intend to do it when the wheels come off for painting and the car is immobilised for a few days

What model do you have Dave? If a 4200 the gaiter just pops out at the base, with a bit of levering.

If a 4200 I don't think what you describe is a tracker, I think it is just a bit of stiff card to hold up the gaiter? In light coloured interiors the glue that held the card in place caused discolouration.

Cheers

All manual 4200s have what you say. On grey leather it discolours at a different rate to the rest of the gaitor and looks strange. The latter is no use to you what so ever but I enjoyed saying it....,

It is a 4200 and the stiiffener looks to be black........ but I couldn't get the gaitor to pop out easily. It seems a strange thing to fit...........perhaps those with soft gaitors have taken the offending item out so that it doesn't discolour the leather gaitor !
