FCA is doing the financially responsible thing. I don't blame them or Marchionne.

Would any of us produce a product we knew we personally couldn't make a return on? I certainly wouldn't.

Always think of the 4C in this situation.

Alfa was basically on its knees, with just two hatchbacks in its entire model range following the financial disaster which was the 159/Brera/Spider.

Boom. From left field - the 4C.

Admittedly the immediate future doesn't look too flash for Maserati.

But FCA as a going concern isn't going anywhere just yet.

The Levante will have to look special. Driving up the M5 just before Xmas and saw 3 Jaguar F-Paces on test, undisguised. Turned heads and I think will be a great success. Taut and with real presence, regardless of colour - there was a metallic burgundy, dark blue and white and I really liked them. Unfortunately, on the opposite carriageway so unable to take photos.

Maserati needs this to be an emotional and mechanical connection. The competition is fierce in this segment.

The F Pace looks great to me. I think that most of these SUVs are much of a muchness from the side as well as the rear in most cases. It's the front styling that wins or loses it for me. The Kubang/Levante styling is up there IMO - certainly way more attractive than a Cayenne or Bentley Bentayga. The latter has a face only a mother could love (much like Benny!!)

Spot on. High sides, bluff rear end. Sounds like most of the loves of my life.

You cannot do much with an estate style hatch, high bodied four door. But you can give a face you love.

Just glad that we are not the Maserati focus group on this one. They need the car, it will sell, end of. The only regret is that it has slowed the two new coupes but on the other hand the money from the Levante will help them arrive properly done....perhaps.

My worry with all this bigbob is that Maserati are not leading the pack - they are following years behind, and constantly struggling to gain traction in the market. They show superb concept cars, which if launched in time would be very desirable in their respective segments. Instead they choose to delay them, while the competition gets very good product into the market, builds a following, and leaves them behind. Look at how stunning the GT was at launch - they need to repeat that.

Agree with all of that mate.
