I was looking at one of yours, big factor for me seems to be insurance though, at nearly £2000 it's a big wedge of cash to throw away on feck all :( maybe ill have to wait until my hair starts turning grey... :p

Are you very young, not a great record re claims or points?

I am sure I have nearly the cheapest insurance on here.......but with a company without a great rep.........£450 or so, standard policy........and in NI!!!!!!

Not sure if I was doing something wrong but my 4200 ownership cost me £15k over 3 yeras...maybe it was driving it for 20k miles or ensuring everything was 100% right at a decent garage.

This was;
Insurance
MOT
Servicing
depreciation
but not fuel

I too sit here on the sidelines pondering imminent Maserati ownership.

In my case I think it is impossible to justify the decision, it is as the French say a coup de coeur. If I was being rational, living in central London as I do, I would let my garage for £2,000 to £3,000 per annum and use the (free membership) Hertz car club operated on the same block I live on. I've already tried it a few times and it works a breeze: new Fiat 500 at my disposal for a fiver an hour, booked by iPhone app. By doing so I would remove depreciation, insurance, and servicing from my costs. My life would thus be ±£7,000 per annum better off.

But who wants to be rational?

Using the same logic set aside 1500 quid and rent a Maserati once in a while for a weekend. I can't imagine living in central London you are going to get to drive it in anger all that often anyway so rent and avoid all the downside of ownership and have ( albeit in smaller portions) the upside. I am assuming of course that there is somewhere in London you can rent super cars for the day.
Then again, I own one dont I

2k at 36 is far too much........But then we don't know you circumstances......Do you points on licence...?.......Garage will make a difference...DO you park car on road or drive......Plus area makes a huge difference. At 39 my 3200 cost £580 to insure.

If you want to justify ownership don't use it as a daily driver as it will cost you more on insurance fuel and depreciation, but as a second car it makes so much sence, I used to drive a new car every three years on finance and just hand it back having spent £20k plus interest. Now I pay cash for a used small car to use every day which costs peanuts and finance to buy a 4200 to use once a week.
My car will be paid for next year and still worth 90% of what it cost me, and it has only cost me £1k per year in service bills. Far more sensible than a new car. Just got to convince my wife to stop buying £35k Audi and do the same !!!

Welcome to Maserati the sensible option.

Just to add to the insurance quotes:

3200 Auto, 31 years old, parked on driveway (in Hastings!), full NCB & clean license, £450 with Tescos insurance.

Cheers

<£500 is more palatable, my Brera insurance was £380 last renewal, I have no points or anything that would bump it up so the only thing I can think is that I'm getting caught out on postcode. Where I live is great, its part of a converted 17th Century Hall in it's own grounds, listed and designated a historic park and garden with communal private parking, only problem is that their is a tatty council estate built next to it. :(

Sean,
If you think about it you could come up with a massive amount of reasons not to buy Maserati, we all could. When you have cancelled them all out and finally decide to take the plunge, see the thing of beauty sitting on your driveway, get admiring glances and smiles wherever you go in her and enjoy the drive so much you have a permanent smile, then you know why you bought Maserati.
