Hey guys,
I wanted to share something with you that I am quite proud of, and which I think you can be very helpful in growing.
I recently became an angel investor in an online marketplace called Boticca.com (www.boticca.com), which a close friend started last year.
Boticca is a curated online marketplace connecting professional, independent designers of exclusive jewellery, handbags, and accessories from around the world to a global audience that values and seeks to buy unique eclectic pieces.
Every week, Boticca will “launch” an up-and-coming designer from its marketplace on the homepage with editorial content conveying the designer’s story and personality with an introductory sale pricing for the week. For example, over the last couple of weeks we have featured designers from Lebanon, Israel, Turkey, and the US. Our designers hail from every corner of the globe and we will keep recruiting more.
The site was quietly launched at the end of September 2009 and currently has over 1,300 products from over 120 designers worldwide – up from 300 products and 30 designers at launch. Boticca’s unique approach has been validated by prominent online magazines and fashion blogs such as Elle.com and POSHGLAM despite the absence of proactive marketing.
The business model is based on a sales commission with no listing fees and the monetization of future additional services for Boticca’s designer partners.
So, how can you help?
Boticca is constantly working to improve the website (content, functionality, user friendliness) and of course the selection of designers and inventory. Therefore, any feedback (positive/negative) or suggestions are highly appreciated and will be taken into consideration. We have also recently hired full-time professionals to grow the business, including a CTO, website designer, and an intern to on-board new designers. So, I am very excited about Boticca’s future prospects and I hope you can help me and the founders turn it into a success!
