Nick, if they are using the correct PPG paint code and using PPG pre mixed paint rather than doing it themselves and the match is poor, you will have to have the bonnet and wing tops blended then all of it lacquered.

Its the only way to do it properly.

If they give you the speil that there paint mix in house is PPG, dont listen to them and go buy the paint yourself, there is a Brown Brothers in Basingstoke that are an official PPG supplier.

This is what they are now suggesting, seems ridiculous but it sounds like I'm going to get a new paint job across the front end..... No stone chips or scratches which will be nice, shame I've missed the summer driving the thing!!

Still no news about the mechanical fault, they suspect throttle body or a sensor but since mine is the contactless and was done only a few years ago I think this may be wrong. Fingers crossed its nothing major, it was ok before the accident, but doubt they'll be able to add that to the claim?

Found the mechanical fault. One of the pipes on the turbos was cracked following the impact with the speed hump. This meant it was reading atmospheric rather than boost pressure from the turbos, hence the loss in power. This is now resolved and was FOC.

Front end respray coming up, should get it back next week. Praying for an Indian summer, looks like its mine until next year (I say this every year!).

Nick how flipping hard did you hit that speed hump!

Your are now getting a quite pristine car back from them - I'd keep it for at least that long!!

He had to be trying hard, he was trying to catch up with the 4200s/GSs that were already at the port.

Glad to hear that fault is fixed, it sounds like it's going to come back to you in great shape!

I knew I had missed the ferry, due to getting a speeding ticket... I didn't think I hit it that hard but it was quite steep, the front end slammed into the ground on the other side after I went over it...

I bet it looked like something out of the Dukes of Hazzard! Did you say"I can see our house from here" at the top of the trajectory? That would have been cool.

Ian,at least it won't have 8 litre's of coolant mixed in with the oil when your water pump fails......and it will,Its only a matter of time!

Hopefully so will Nick with his lovely more reliable old school engineered 3200..

Acording to David Askew, late low miles 3200's are now getting very difficult to find and as the guys in Aus are prepared to pay around 20k for nice RHD examples...not sure about the 4200's,there not so sort after!

Would have thought code reader would tell what was wrong.

Without getting the code read the easy thing to check are:
12 screws near the injectors holding the plenum onto the air intake
4 screws holding the throttle body onto the plenum
4 tubes at the back of the plenum

Leaks on these would cause a CEL and dodgy running.

Next bet would be knock sensor contamination with coolant leak never had this myself but I it is always on my radar. A well known problem but a lot of work to get at compared to the easy stuff above!
