I like this:

Could be very useful in the garage.
Remote switch on/off say electric garage doors for more security (I'm sure the average garage door remotes are not very secure with regard to code grabbing)
Add alarm kit to notify of break-in.
Endless possibilities really.

I'll see your iSocket and raise you:

http://www.letsautomate.com/index.cfm?&Nav=ZWave&

Which is very *very* funky.

I can make sure Mrs Catman comes back to a lit house from wherever I am in the world, as long a I have internet connectivity. Will also get around to controlling heating and cameras at some point.

I shall now go and be geeky somewhere else :)

I like that, but I assume for remote access and control via a web page you have to have a 'server' PC running all the time?

There are solutions that provide cloud based access for you. But the controller still (in many cases) needs to be connected to a computer. If anyone is interested, I think I have a controller that uses a cloud solution that I can stick in the post.

I have one of these:

The lite version as I have enough tech and way more than enough skill to run my own routers, but the non-lite version will replace your broadband router and eliminate the need for a 'server' as well.

The only thing I find annoying about Vera / Z-wave on the whole is the software is just not as good as what I used to run for X-10 (it just won't work in our current house), and since I run my own mail and file servers, I wanted to run it on that, and just couldn't.

Still there we are.
