When I search on cat failures I find physical (road) damage or high cat temperatures due to modifications. I'd like to hear from someone who has had a cat failure in a stock 4200 engine without road damage to the cats. Just a question because I, and probably many others, have stock engines.
Yes I had cat damage to the front cat/s during a track day. Thankfully my car came with the Euro 4 bolt manifolds and not the US 2 bolt ones, so the front cats are not part of the manifold. Replaced the front section with Larini version, which uses a sports cat, reduces the number of cats and provides better exhaust flow. It got rid of the rattle and opened up the performance. Should always have come with this set up. Later I added other Larini sections to have a complete set.

Zep,

A quick search on Google will give you info on manifold design. The Maserati manifold is designed to
maximise torque...long, thin runners. Put another way, why do manufacturers make variable intake engines?

You're right I'm not a fan of exhaust mods, but readers of this forum would be well served to hear some facts.
Around 15 years ago during its previous ownership, my car had a RH cat failure. The exhaust was completely standard and there was no visible sign of any external impact damage to the cat.

For some unknown reason the RH cat was about 40% more expensive than the LH cat at around £3k fitted. There was some concern that the engine may have ingested the ceramics but an internal scope proved otherwise.

The previous owner couldn't face any more bills like that so he sold the car to me!

I plan to get SportsItalia to fit sports cats to mine when I'm next down there. After driving 95k miles with the OEM cats fitted, I can no longer risk them disintegrating and lunching the engine.

I've started preparation for ceramic coating today. The roof needed some wet sanding and two stage machine polish. Rest of the car should do with just two stage polish.View attachment 84870
Can you tell the difference between the bad and good side?

Wow, that's very brave, I have a few small scratches that I think would come out with a wet sand, as opposed to a respray, but I am chickening out of doing it myself at the moment.

I've done that before with my TVR after respray, pretty much the whole car but back then I knew how many costs of clear coat there wasDSC_5352~3.JPG
And the results speak for themselves I think

It took me a little bit longer than expected but polishing is finally finished. Now ceramic coating application.

So that is how Goodwood Verde looks like
Magnificent. Reminds me of the VG GS Spyder sold by McGrath last year... Lovely looking machine.

That TVR is a stunner too. If these are in the same garage? Why would you ever be inside the house?
