How to fit an x pipe

I have just bought a Larini x pipe and set about trying to fitting it today. All of the clamps on the standard resonator box loosened up nicely. I thought that it would be simply the case of wiggling the old box forward and then out but it will only slide of forward about an inch.

Anyone know how to remove the original resonator box? Is it necessary to remove the long pipes that connect to the rear boxes? If not then do you need to push the pipes off at the back or the front of the box?

Cheers

From experience, you are best loosening all the clamps and giving the long pipes a 'bit of a bash' to drive the rear boxes towards the rear of the car. Wrap plenty of rags around the tail pipes to stop them scratching the rear bumper.

A lot of wrestling required as Ian says loosens all and any clamps etc..........and protect rear bumper....my guy who changed over the H pipe on mine cussed quite a bit!

Thanks guys. I'll have a go at pulling the long pipes towards the back of the car more as I may have been a little too gentle! Do you know approximately how much the pipes overlap inside the clamp? I can get the inner pipe to slide out by about 1inch so far but I am not sure how much is still inside. Offering up the larini pipe suggests 2 inches but it may be a bit longer.

Even though my H pipe is Larini.....wasn't there at the time, so can't truly say....Ian will have more recent and on site knowledge no doubt

From memory I reckon there is 2-3" overlap, but it will depend on how whoever installed the system set the tail pipes. If they protrude a lot from the rear bumper there will be less overlap and if they dont there will be a greater overlap. Although I've never done it, i'm pretty sure you can replace the centre box without removing the tail pipes.

You can, but as above, tolerances are very limited and you need everything loosened up and be prepared to skin your knuckles.....;)
